Valuables In The Hospital

Recommended Posts

I have never had surgery and have never stayed in a hospital overnight. Vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery will be the first surgery in my life where I stay overnight in a hospital. This might sound like a strange question, but I really do not know. Where do you store your wallet, your cell phone, your laptop and other valuables? Is there a safe at the hospital? Family members will do their best to be with me, but it is a possibility that they cannot arrive exactly on the date of my surgery. Thanks to anyone who might have insights.

You don't wear any jewelry or anything like that. And you probably won't need your wallet - I never have (DH has had his so he can get food or run and get me things I end up needing). I've always just kept things like my electronics in the room with me - in the closet when not in use.

I've been in the hospital a couple of times and never needed my wallet either. My mom has been in the hospital MANY times sometimes for weeks at a time. She always took things like her phone, ipod, ipod speakers and other similar things and never had an issue with things being stolen and she left her stuff out so it would be in reach whenever she needed it.

I was told not to bring anything. Friend who drove me took my purse home with her. U don't need anything at all...not even your toothbrush but I brought my electric with me anyway. Kept it in drawer. Had my nook and sidekick plugged into the wall. Keep everything in your clothing bag until u can use ur electronics after u wake up and orient yourself. Other than that, u don't need a thing.

Agree with most everyone... Don't take anything you wouldn't want stolen. My husband does security for a hospital and you'd be surprised how many things get "lost". My hubby will have my phone, etc until i'm in a room and can monitor for myself. Security can sometimes lock things in a safe for you but they don't have alot of room. I know at my husband's hospital they will only lock up meds I think.

The only thing I am bringing with me is my cell phone, charger, and a book. I am not even going to be wearing my wedding bands or any other jewelry. I would store your items in the bag with your clothes, since you won't have someone there to hold them for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
