Would You Do It Again?

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting view points on the gastric sleeve. If you have had the procedure would you do it again? What are the long term results? I would like to have the surgery in July.

in a heartbeat, without a doubt! the first couple weeks are tough recovery, but after that, smooth sailing and the weight loss is incredible! I feel great!

YES!

I have written a few long posts about how this has changed my life - in summary, I am living a life I want to live now. I started out 150 pounds overweight - it is pretty hard to emjoy a full life carrying that load.

I have had no serious complications and LOVE being free of the overwhelming drive to eat.

No doubt. This has been a life changer and actually saved my life. It reversed my Diabetes and I take no medication for anything. I have lost about 120 lbs. and hit my goal weight at 9.5 months from surgery. I am as healthy now as I was when I was a teen, probably healthier.

Yes, yes, yes. If you'd asked me at around the 1-month mark, I would have had a different answer--this is not for sissies!! But absolutely yes.

I am 1 month post op & already off of high blood pressure meds. I have restriction now with the sleeve that I never got with the Band. I had the Band for 4 years. That I would never do again. The sleeve Yes Yes Yes. I had a rough surgery with a lot of scar tissue that the surgeon had to remove first & a rough, slow recovery (Im still not back to work yet ) but I would do it all over. Not losing quickly but it is coming off & I can really tell by my clothing. DD

I'm 9 months post op and loving life. I am 15lbs away from goal, and it's been easy. I'm hot, poeple notice me, the hubby can't keep his hands off me, I got the confidence to go back to school and ended with a 3.97 gpa (still fighting for that 4.0) and I am just enjoying my life where I felt like I was just existing before. Every time I see an obese person, I just want to slip them a note with before and after pictures.

I just want to add that I just feel so good. I still enjoy food. I feel like I eat normally, just a lot less than I used to and I have extra motivation to say no to bad choices. I crave shrimp, not cookies....for real. I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE my sleeve.....like passionate, unconditional, undying love.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
