Confused Over Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I'm very confused. Weight came off quickly first week. Then I had a stall/ very loss weight loss week 2&week 3.. now its flying off again... how is this possible? Surgery was 3/13 and I just weighed myself and I've lost 43 pounds. Somehow I lost 2 pounds overnight..

I am four months post op and find that there are days that still happens to me, such as from yesterday to today I've lost 1.7! However we need to remember our bodies fluctuate back and forth as well so.... But I would say you are losing at a a nice rate! I was down 25 pounds my first two weeks alone! Enjoy it!

Enjoy it while it lasts and try not to freak when it slows down or stops completely, because it will eventually.

I lost in fits and starts the whole time - I was either stuck on one number or dropping two pounds a day - nothing was ever predictable or constant for me.

It's a survival mechanism for the body called homeostasis. During times of famine, the body would hold Water and do whatever else it had to do to keep the body weight stable. Eventually, the water has to go, hence the drop. That's what "bounces" are, too. I will do everything right, and gain a pound overnight. Within a day or two, I'm down that pound and more. Fascinating stuff.

Sweets and night eating were my bad habits. Been doing well with it though. Has been tough having cupcakes in the house . But I've stayed strong. So how long does falling off stage last? And does it come back again?

It could come back in spurts as you continue to get closer to goal. Or you could taper off and become a regular, consistent loser. No telling until you're there, unfortunately. The closer you get to your ideal weight, the harder the weight is to lose (harder = slower) so be prepared. You shouldn't worry about that for a while, though.

Work on the night eating. It's a challenge for a lot of us. I used to curl up on the couch in the evenings and eat and it was very hard to shake that. I started losing the habit by only allowing myself to have a Protein shake or Water at night. The sweet shakes killed the craving to snack and also gave me a Protein boost. This is still a challenge for me at times, because ingrained habits are very hard to break.

I think the best approach to resisting sweets in the house is to allow yourself a small portion of what you want. Most of the time you should find that it wasn't as great as you built it up in your head and the rest of the time the small portion should be enough to satisfy the urge to eat and let you go on your way.

Good luck,

~Cheri

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
