Back Pain?

I have been getting quite a bit of back pain since my surgery (8 days ago) can anyone relate to this or might it just be a coincidence?

    I suffered from back spasms prior to surgery but I hadn't had any recent episodes. Since surgery on 3/21/12, I have had a nagging back pain. I have no idea what it is but I have been using my heating pad to combat it.

    I have such pain that it keeps me from sleeping. It radiates from my left shoulder. My boyfriend is a massage therapist and I am constantly asking him to massage it. At one of my doctors appointments there was mention of pain from trapped gasses and that it would be felt in the left shoulder. I feel it all through the lef side of my back. I am on day 5 of recovery and only want to take my pain meds to combat the shoulder pain I am experiencing. My stomach area is actually manageable.
