How long do you wait between bites?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3.5 months out and find that I am starting to eat too quickly. Sometimes I try to have a magazine to look at while I'm eating to slow me down a bit. I was told my meals should last around 30 minutes. I do not take that long at all and do not have any trouble eating. Any tips or tricks to make my meals last longer? And what do you think the purpose is for eating so slowly (aside from the pain it can cause)?

I have same problem and then get pain in sternum and espohogus from eating to much to fast.

I try to watch tv, check emails on iphone, put fork and plate down, do a crossword puzzle.

Good luck with the timing.

I use my phone and keep track of the time, about a bite or two a minute. Doing something while eating definitely helps makes it easier to pass the time. The real trick is to understand what your portion size is before you begin to eat. For me, hamburger patty and a couple slices of cheese on top will result in about a bite or two not eaten. So even if I do eat fast, that fullness will come on within the next 20 minutes.

When I was newly sleeved and eating solids, I often gave my self terrible chest pain from eating too fast. I went to a game store and bought a two minute egg timer. Hourglass type thing. I think it was$2.50. Then, I would take a bite and turn the timer over. When the sand had all gone to the bottom...time for another bite. This was a huge help and relief to me. Sometimes I took a bite, went and did something else and then came back to see if the sand was down yet! No more worries that I was eating too fast.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
