Pain when taking deep breath.. help please.

Recommended Posts

Hello.. I am 9 days post op. About 3 days ago I started to have some pain on my left side and really notice it if I take a deep breath. It's almost like a runners stitch. If you had this as well can you let me know. I emailed my surgeon and am waiting for reply, but I thought I would put it out here because if others had this it would at least put my mind at ease until I speak with him. There is also a little pain in my back.. left side.. just below my shoulder blade. It isn't nagging, just noticeable. I haven't had a fever or chills and it hasn't gotten worse, but it hasn't gone away either.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

:)

Sounds like you may have pulled something. left side of the body no major organs. Could be trapped gas, pulled muscle, things healing. I would try a heating pad and only worry if the pain become constant with a fever.

Yes, I had this pain. It hurt to breath in, to laugh, even to move sometimes. It felt like a really bad running cramp and lasted for days off and on. I blogged about it when I was having the pain. Here's what I was going through that day and what the doctor said (last paragraph of my speech that day..lol): http://sliceofhealthyplease.blogspot.com/2011/07/27-days-post-op-pain-under-ribs-and.html

Then, here is what I finally figured out my problem was: http://sliceofhealthyplease.blogspot.com/2011/07/30-days-post-op-lemon-juice-and-pain.html

I hope this helps. I would still talk with your doctor and just make sure that your pain isn't something else.

Try to take it easy, seems this would happen to me if I over did it or lifted something fairly light. Let me know what the dr says and keep a watch on your temp but it doesn't sound like a leak to me. Feel better soon!

Thanks for responding everyone :o)

I spoke to my surgeon's patient coordinator.. she passed the information along to him.. he said it was likely just gas. Last night the pain in my back went away and it was almost like I felt the gas move thru me. When I take a deep breath I still have a little pain, but it is much better.

You are all very helpful

:)

Julia, thanks for the update. It's amazing how long that gas lingers! I hope it keeps getting easier everyday for you and I'm glad it was nothing to be worried about.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
