Post OP pain

I had my Sleeve with a HH repair (was a surprise) and liver bx. 5/17. seemed to have the "normal" post op feeling until getting out of bed 3am day 3 post op. felt a pull to the right side near the GB to umbilicus area, like a stab pain 8/10. Surgeon is not familiar with this? Took myself to ED post op day 5 because it continued then hurt through to my back, kidney?? strained muscle?? GB?? after CT, labs, and a US, NOTHING was found. Gave me more pain meds but I do not want to numb it, I want to know WHAT it is! Any ideas?? Thank you.

I had similar pains but in a different area. I thought my appendix had burst. Turned out to be deferred pain from my drain (which was no where near the location of my pain). My surgeon said that sometimes in the healing process your body will defer the pain to the another area. When they removed my drain (which was threaded to the left) I felt all the pain on the right. It was odd. Hopefully your body is just deferring the pains of healing to your back.

I had a feeling like that postop and I really think it was my drain too. It ached most days but it hurt to touch the area and when I bent or twisted a little. After they took the drain out (which was sucked beyond belief), I felt great.

I have something like that on the right side right at edge of the rib cage. Mine also happens to come with some swelling. The pain is going away, but it is near 2 incisions. I go to the dr tomorrow for my follow up, so we will see what it is. I hope it is like yours and just temporary pain and swelling. oh I am on day 7, too

THANK YOU ALL so so so MUCH FOR YOUR IDEAS AND EXPERIENCE. I did not have a drain but after talking again to my doctor this morning he said it could be muscle wall pain and/or nerve pain. he sais the Vit B-complex will help this. so will keep plugging away and try to stay active.
