Slow Loss
Thanks Blackanese25, I appreciate it. Ms. C, I am sorry to hear about the slow loss. I felt the same way when I was going into my check-up/follow-up, to the point that I was freaking out and annoying my coworkers. Keep your thoughts positive. If you need to talk to another nutritionist, go for it. I have also heard that sometimes the sleeve is the first step for some people that are heavily obese. They then go on to have a bypass to help the weight loss go even further. I know that isn't what a lot of people want, but it is an option I had heard about. Keep up with the support groups too. I am here to talk to too, since I feel like I am not losing anything.

Getting my husband on board!
I have to agree with the last two posts. My hubby was sort of against the surgery, but he was afraid that something would happen to me. He was afraid of what could happen, if I would be hurt worse, etc. He even went to call my mom and asked her to talk me out of it. What he didn't realize was that my mom was behind me because she knew the troubles I have had. He finally learned that things were going to happen with or without his support. He took a while and has lately been my support system. I am 8 months post surgery and have been struggling with my depression and the hubby has been a great support. All I can say is, talk to him. Take him to the dr's, the meetings, etc. Involve him in it so that he sees this is what you need to do. Have your family talk with him about family health history, etc.

A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words
I was inspired by Vanishing Vixen to go through pics I had.... So I thought I would add some of the ones I had. She is totally right, pics are great reinforcers. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/gallery/album/1393-throughout-the-year/ I added those. I hope I don't embarrass myself too much.

Will Slow Losers Get To Goal?
I know I am at the same state you are in. I had my surgery at the same time you did, mid-May. I am losing veeeerrrryyyy slowly. I look at it like this, I may be slow, but I don't have the excess skin and my doctor was happy with everything at the 6 month period. I hate that I am slow, but I have to keep reminding myself that any weight off is better than any on. I stall for a while, but the clothes fit better, to the point I can go "shopping" in my mom's closet. I am at her size. At the same time my hubby, who weighs a paltry 125 wet, put on a pair of pants and they were mine. They were slightly too big versus him being able to fit two of him in them. I keep reminding myself slow is ok. It is better to do it in a healthy way versus doing a total dump of weight and then having health issues afterwards. Thanks to those that gave suggestions, I needed those.

Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Thanks for posting. I have found that my Bi-Polar has started being affected recently, even though I am 8 months post surgery. I feel like I should be losing more and have been going from bouncing around with a ton of energy to having none and being totally way down. This is all on top of meds that I have been on for years. I first thought it was stress of everything, but now I am worried.

Slow Loss
I had my surgery back in March and have lost around 30 lbs since then. However, since the beginning of my weight loss experience, I have lost around 60lbs. I have gone from a size 22-24 to a 14. My doctor was happy with me when I saw her in November, as I am losing weight evenly. I don't have excess skin, except for around the belly. Am I expecting too much that I feel I should have lost more by now? I seem to go through period of loss, then i balance out and lose the inches and the skin shrinks. According to my goals, I am about 35-45lbs away. My mom and I had a laugh when I saw her at Christmas time when she told me she started losing weight after I had the surgery instead of me. Any suggestions? Should I let it go, as it still seems to be working for me, although slow? Thanks

A GOOD protein Powder
Congrats Michelle on finding that protein. i tried it before hand and i had to return it. I know everyone is different, but I figured if I get sick before, I might get sick after. I found that I like the Muscle Milk light, Chocolate Mint. I love the flavor, and 2 scoops for me is 32g of protein. I want to try some of the other flavors and will do so soon. I think it is cool that GNC will do samples for people.

My hubbie hates me, lmao
I know from reading all of these posts that everyone is different. I tried soft foods yesterday and still feel ok. I wake up this morning and feel like can eat again, but I am going cautiously with a protein shake. I know that my sleeve is one of the best things that has happened to me and I am not going to ruin it. I feel that a person, more so than a doctor knows how they feel. A doctor knows partly what is best, but we know too. My doc said I could, yesterday felt great, texture wise. But I know not to push it.

My hubbie hates me, lmao
I really can't tell you how she made the choice. I have been doing pretty good on what I have tried though. Let me tell you my stomach, and taste buds, don't have any complaints. But your moving of liquids to soft is like mine. In about 2 weeks I move onto solids. I guess as long as I feel good and all is well, she knows what she is doing.

First weigh in today!!!
Heads up!! You will do great. Go in high, come out high...and no I don't mean that kinda high. I meant enthusiasm. You know the sleeve works and you are using it the way it needs to be. Congrats on whatever weight you have lost!

My hubbie hates me, lmao
Ok, so I had my 2-week follow up, after 8 days because dr is going out of town. She asks how I've been doing. Told her I was great just missing the texture of foods. So what does she say? She told me I can go onto the mushie/soft food stage. After 8 days!! Her reasoning is that the only reason we go onto liquids is because we need to heal. Well, I have, she is happy, and the chicken salad I ate about 7 bites of was good except for the abundance of onions. Well, with the diet switch, I had to drag the hubby to the store to get some acceptable foods. (I couldn't keep them in the house without eating them, yes I am weak willed ) Anyway, today is payday, we went to the store for our month of groceries, saved around 150$, and forgot my card at home. I had to use the hubbies. Now, I am sitting at home telling myself that I can have this or that for dinner, yet i am not hungry. I did notice, when walking around wal-mart there is a lot of nasty, fatty foods out there. I never saw it because i was buying it. Once I had to be more aware of it, I saw how much junk everyone is eating. Oh, and I officially through the dr. lost 12 lbs the first 8 days, happy dance, lol. She was blown away with that number and the fact that the only pain i have can be controlled with tylenol and that is only at night or when I first get up. I am healing great, just itch. She also explained what the funny thing on my belly is, it's the muscle that doesn't line up where it does when I am all bloated. Plus it is where the stomach part came out... Ok, I have shared it all. I guess I will stop talking now. Have a great Memorial Day!!!!

My new Dew
Awesome pictures!! It is moments like these that are the best, tied with people that make positive comments on how you look. Keep on truckin'. We will all get there, sooner or later!

how long will i need help with my kids post-op?
My dr told me not to lift anything over 15 lbs until cleared. I can tell you the heavier the thing weighs the harder. I would try and plan for 2 weeks to give your body that extra time before you have to lift and move, etc. everyone's pain is different. Look at it this way, you get 2 weeks recovery, the grandparents get 2 weeks with the grandbabies. i live an hour away from my mom and she still takes my 11 year old for a week or two to get her time in. Let them have their time to spoil, and you get better.

stomach "growlies"
Kelly, exactly. I get it in the tummy as well as the throat. It tickle but is annoying. I wonder if it will go away when i go to more solids. I take a pill for stomach acids, it doesn't do very much, but rid me of pain when I wake up and before dinner.

Red Velvet Gang- How Ya Doing?
I'm on day 7, and still have some pain. No where near as bad as the first few days. I have been lucky and have finally started being able to walk around. I think it is because I hate standing still. Those few days where it hurt to move drove me batty. The only thing good out of it was that I was able to sleep. I think I am ready to go back to work after Memorial Day. I am down 9-10lbs and love it. I want to lose more soon. I am trying really hard on my liquids, dreaming about the mushies. I was told to aim for 3 cups, 24 ozs of Protein shakes daily. I think that puts me at about 60 g of protein. I can usually do about 2.5 cups. then I get sick. I also have to drink a minimum of 3 cups of other liquids. I have been able to do that part no problem. I just stretch it out. My son looked at me yesterday and kept telling me, and others as I was getting him from school, my mommy is getting skinnier. I loved it. When I went to the school to get him, as I work there too, my coworkers were telling me that I looked great. My principal asked me if I really should be up driving and walking. She thought I was nuts to be up and moving, lol. Anyway, I am excited and wanting to dance for making it this far. One week down, a lifetime to go.

Post OP pain
I have something like that on the right side right at edge of the rib cage. Mine also happens to come with some swelling. The pain is going away, but it is near 2 incisions. I go to the dr tomorrow for my follow up, so we will see what it is. I hope it is like yours and just temporary pain and swelling. oh I am on day 7, too

Why must I finish it? WHY????
I have found putting the majority away. I also consider the fact right now, I am still on liquids. I went to my mom's house last night and drained some soup to get the broth. She saw me eating/drinking. I stopped and had a lot left. Her first question was if I got enough. i had to tell her that I had found my limits the other day and wasn't going to push it. Luckily when I have jello, I have an 11 yr old who will finish it for me. I look to him when I go onto other foods to finish what I don't. I also don't worry about him food wise since he is in that "I will eat anything and everything.....I'm starving....oh look, I grew another 2 inches" stage. It is easier to throw out those last few bites than to make yourself sick. If it is enough to save, then save it. If it isn't don't stress, just toss.

Down 19 lbs my first week
I weighed myself 3 days prior, was 227. Day of I was 223. i went to my moms this afternoon and was 214. I look at that as 9-10 lbs. I am on day 6 and am pretty happy with that amount. Except for the re-hospitalization. congrats!!

Day 15 Post Op
I go see the surgeon tomorrow and am starting to get anxious like you are Michelle. I am afraid she will say that I need to stay on liquids longer than originally planned. I am supposed to go to mushies on Tuesday, perfect for when I go back to work. She might also tell me I can't go back to work. I am really not emotional, maybe because I take mood meds. I am just anxious. I have a tendency to overthink. i love watching and reading what you and meggip post because I get a lot of current feelings so I kinda know what to plan for. So good luck with the dr and the emotions. They are are to overcome, but you seem like an up beat person and you can do it!

stomach "growlies"
I am sitting here, trying to slowly eat my Jello after swallowing Soup waaaayyy too fast. I finally feel up to more liquids since I kinda skipped lunch. I'm all calm, doggie laying her head on me. All of a sudden, she pops her head up and just stares at my stomach. I have been having air bubble coming from my stomach as I slowly eat some liquids. They are making her head vibrate and she doesn't like it. The worst part, for her? She can hear them too. I think it is the funniest thing ever. She is starting to stop laying her head on my stomach adn more on my legs. Has anyone else had this problem with almost non stop bubble while eating anything? Or drinking?

I'm Done!!
Thanks everyone!! Besides pain from one of the incisions and overall muscle pain, life is good. i woke up this am with NO gas pain. i guess day 5 really is the turn around day. Good thing because I have work errands to run, fun fun. Anyway, Ruby, yeps, I'm on broths, jellos, Water, juice, etc. They said full liquids, so every now and then I break down and do a thinned downed cream Soup. I need to change the flavors. I only have to do that until next Monday before I go to softies. I am anxious because I go in on Friday to see the nut and see how it is all going. If I still have pain on this one side, I will see what she can do. I hope everyone else who was sleeved the same week is having fun and recuperating well.

Possibly adjusting my goal weight
I am the same height and am looking at 150-145. I didn't like when I was smaller than that when I was younger. I say go for what you are comfortable with. If you liked it, go for it. Also think that if you had children, it might get harder to get to that weight.
