1 week post op - how are you feeling?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 3/3/11. I am overwhemed by all the gas - both ends. :-) I feel extremely full, and have to make a decision to drink my shakes. Overall, I'm fantastic and so happy about my decision. Even though I promised I wouldn't weigh myself I did. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital. However, I know it is from all the swelling and forced fluids. I'd love to hear about other one week experiences. Have a super day all!

Glad to hear that you are doing so well sindlou. Seems you had a lot of swelling and Water retention. You should be losing weight soon though. Please keep us posted..

I'm 10 days out & am finally starting to feel human again. I'm not coming anywhere near to meeting my Water & Protein requirements. If I get 15 grams of protein in a day, it's a miracle. I'm not hungry & have to force myself to "eat". I've been nursing this 1/2 cup of skim milk for an hour now. It's a chore, to say the least. I wish I could take in "food" a bit quicker. It is what it is. Hopefully in another few weeks, i'll be able to do so.

I'm 9 days out and doing ok. Had my drain FINALLY pulled yesterday (thank goodness they let me move my appt up or I would have had it til Friday). I am having a LOT Of pain on the left side, guessing it was from the drain being all the way over there so hopefully the pain will go away soon. Things are not moving yet if ya know what I mean. The doctors put me on 3 different meds to help in that department. Getting off the pain meds will hopefully help too, right now I only use them when I absolutely need them.

I'm able to do a lot more around the house, Breakfast, lunch for the family. Thankfully hubby is home til next week so he has picked up most the slack.

Not getting in hardly any Protein though, struggling to just move from clear to full liquids. Not hungry at all but trying to move on up and get this Protein stuff going.

I just hit the 2 weeks out mark. Like SinDLou, I weighed myself the day after surgery... big mistake! I was up 10 pounds. It did disappear within the next 3 days or so. Like all of you, eating is a chore. I gave up the Protein Shakes on day 6 because I was gagging every time I'd try to drink one. As gross as it sounds, my favorite thing to eat right now is pureed tuna with fat free mayo and some Pickle Juice. I would say that I only just started feeling like my old self a few days ago. Just remember, it will get easier!

I am 8 days out, done on 3/1. Had my week po check Mon. moved me to the phase 2 diet. Did not have any trouble getting the fluids or Protein in-- using powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes/soup. Have had 1 tbs of cottefe cheese at 2 meals--had 1/2 scrambled egg an 1 tbs of cottege cheese for Breakfast. Need shakes to get all the Protein in. Things finally got moving down below--md recomended Miralax 1/2 dose day one then full dose dialy for 3 days OR colace up to 2x per day for 3 days---if nothing happened post 3 d do fleets enema. I did miralx fo 2 days then tried the colace which worked right away.

Did mine 3/1

So far so good. I'm never hungry... and I'm having no problem with anything diet related. However reflux is becoming constant. I had 0 reflux at anypoint post opp until mid day yesterday, now it won't go away.

I've lost about 12 pounds since the surgery, most of that came in the first few days...Just a pound or two the last couple of days.

I'm very glad I did this.

Surgery on 3/7 I know the full feeling. I feel very full. Not able to get in a lot of fluids. I did take one gas-x strip. Going to give it a few hours to see it helps. Walking helps but not enough to release the pressure. I'm sure it will get better.

I guess Im just a lucky guy, sleeved on 3/1 day one was a bit hard, lots of pain, day two I told the hospital to remove the morphine button, I have hardly had any gas pains at all. In the hospital I was up and walking like it was nothing, from the time I came home I have not even touched so much as a Tylenol because other than slight incision pain, I have no pain. I have been walking over 15,000 steps a day according to my Body bug device thingy, I sit and get up with no pain, I lay on my side with no pain, heck I even laid on my stomach at one point. The only problem I am having is I feel so good that I want to skip the next 7 days of the "full liquids diet" and move on to the mushies.

I honestly can say I feel so lucky to be handling all this so well, and I wish that everyone could have the same experience I have.

Sleeved on Feb. 28th... 9 day post op. Doing great. Back to work full time, getting 60 grams via Protein drinks, enjoying creamed Soups. Started taking all my Vitamins this week which helped. No problems with gas but i was a walker at the Hosp. (right Kelly)...

I drink a lot of fluids each day so i've had no BM problems. I also gained 10 lbs in the hosp but lost all plus 6 more first week.

all in all, doing great. I think the key however is, you have to get that Protein down..

Sleeved 2-28 also..I feel fantastic! Back to work on Sunday, walking everyday, having no trouble with liquids or Protein. I really enjoy hearing other people's experiences ...we can all learn from each other.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
