Constipation? How come?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I keep reading about some of us who is having Constipation and taking fibers for that. However, if we are drinking only clear and full liquids, how come it can be constipation? Is not it just that there is no bm because there is not enough there to come out? Should we still have normal bms while on the diet and how frequently? I have not had any by day 6 so I dont know if I should be worried about this, take something to help with it, get ready for something bad or just wait and see.

I know it seems silly but I am starting to worry about it.

Thanks

Well I can tell you from what I know You as well as I are on mostly Protein and very little carb.. You need fruit and Vegies to keep ya regualr. Also when you take calicum and Iron it tends to constipate you.. But as having a bm everyday it is almost impossible...Your sleeve is so small that it would take at least 2 or 3 days to acculate a food for that.. But they have told me that Miralax is the best and you will get relief if it has beeen too long..but until you go to solids you will be having less bms because your on liquids

Fiber is the key, you need fibrous materials in order for the stool to be moved through the colon. Without it the stools stall out and remain too long and actually kind of dry out - that's the dark hard poop that we all occasionally had.

With a high Protein low carb diet there again is not much Fiber, hence the need to take fiber supplements. Like many I like polyethylene glycol, one brand is Miralax. It works, is almost undetectable in almost any Fluid and is calorie free and pretty much has no side effects. It is actually an inert plastic that adsorbs Water and bulks up the stool so it can be eliminated easily.

On the liquid stage it can be a bit tricky. You definitely need Fiber. Try adding some liquid fiber supplement to some of your Water and over time it will help. In the mean time, seeing as it's been 6 days you may want to try something more fast acting. I won't suggest anything because I'm not sure what your Dr. may approve of or not.

For me personally it was more liquids in and liquids out. However this is not true for everyone.

I'm well into my solids, but as it is now majority of my carbohydrates do contain fiber. I get at least 16-18g per day. I also "go" every day too... if I notice I miss a day I bump up my fiber immediately. I don't joke around with that, and won't worry about losing two more pounds to avoid fiber. Believe me, pooping weighs pounds too... LOL

Good luck!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
