I had my surgery 5/30/13, the first couple weeks while I was healing I had no problems eating the suggested food quantity amounts. My doctor told me last week that at this point, I should be eating no more than 6-8oz per meal. Unfortunately, I know I eat more than that. I don't eat as much as I used to prior to my surgery, but not as little as I should. I'm already on my second fill 6.5cc on a 14cc band. I was hoping this last fill would make Portion Control a bit easier on me. Is this something I should realistically hope will get better down the road with more fills?

Aimee

How did you get OVER 14ccs in a 14cc band?

Having adequate Fluid in your band will help hunger, but sticking to the right portion is your job to control not the band's job. Here is how Dr. Simpson explains it:

"The Lap-band is NOT about Restriction

When talking about the band, some patients talk about restriction. Let's first be clear about one thing: the purpose of the band is not restriction; the purpose of the band is to lose weight by suppressing the appetite.

When band professionals talk about restriction we are talking about something totally different than "restricting what a person eats." In fact, many band surgeons avoid talking about restriction so as to not confuse patients. The band works by dimming the appetite, and this provides a conscious control and decision made by the patient, it does not work by "making" a person do something, or keep them from eating too much.

The Lap-band works by suppressing your appetite

As a result, you are less interested in food between meals, making it easier to resist temptation. The analogy is when you are near a vending machine when you are hungry-- what do you do? Probably find yourself with some junk food that is not a part of your plan. But, when you pass a vending machine when you are full, it may not even catch your eye. Having the appetite dimmed makes you less tempted by the many food choices modern living throws at you - -this is what the band does, by suppressing appetite you become less interested in food."

I kinda feel the same way. I've had my 2nd fill and I definitely don't eat as much as I used to but I feel like I am able to eat more than I should.

I didn't feel anything until my 3rd fill in my 10cc AP Standard band, for what it's worth. My surgeon did tell me they can actually overinflate the band if needed to get the proper restriction needed. As long as you are not occluded, it really doesn't matter how much is in the band.

My surgeon says to eat solid foods and this will help with the feelness of fullness. I notice if I eat yougurt and smooth things I am hungry but. If I eat Proteins and then veggies I tend to be fuller for a longer period of time. I just had my first fill on yesterday and it was only 2cc's. I am already thinking I should have had an additional two to three cc's lol.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
