I had my surgery April 19 along with a hernia (hiatial). I've been hoarse off and on since. Is this normal? I go back for a fill May 20.

Totally normal because they put a tube down your throat while you're anesthetized. It makes it rather raw and sore.

My surgery was on the 24th. I had a hiatial hernia repaired that day. I was hoarse until a week after my surgery.

However, I don't think it was from intubation, as I have had surgeries before and never felt like that. I think it had more to do with the hernia repair. I was speaking from my chest rather than my diaphragm, there was simply no power in my voice.

As this week has gone on, the power has slowly returned to my voice. I also noticed at my voice retuned as that choking feeling I had after surgery diminished.

I think it is from the hernia repair. I had a 10 hour back surgery in May of last year and it didn't make me hoarse. Didn't think about comparing. Thanks!
