  1. I think it is from the hernia repair. I had a 10 hour back surgery in May of last year and it didn't make me hoarse. Didn't think about comparing. Thanks!
  2. I had my surgery April 19 along with a hernia (hiatial). I've been hoarse off and on since. Is this normal? I go back for a fill May 20.
  3. My BMI was just under 32. My Dr did require a preoperative liquid diet but I didn't follow it religiously. I would however try to stay away from as many carbohydrates as possible. It really does make a difference in liver size and also a higher protein diet speeds healing.
  4. Is it okay to use a heating pad on my tummy? I'm 1 week post op
  5. Everyone is doing so awesome! I'll be glad when the swelling goes down all the way. I'm down 12 lbs since April 5.
  6. I've only been banded for a week. Maybe it's tubing...I also had plication done. Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to check it out when I go see Doc Monday
  7. I can actually feel my port AND my band through my skin. I'm going to see my surgeon Monday. I feel like,I have a pocket of gas on my left side just under my bottom rib.
  8. Since my surgery not sick my surgery...oiy!
  9. Ugh....I look like an accident victim. My tummy is a lovely palette of blue, purple, and yellow. It's been a week today sick My surgery. My left shoulder is still killing me. The port site is still sore. I can feel my port AND my band through my skin....I that weird or normal? I go back Mon for a checkup.
  10. Thanks! My temperature went down after lunch yesterday. I'm on antibiotics because I'm still running a temp of 100-101°…feeling better though!
  11. If you would have asked me Fri, Sat, Sun, or before 1:00 yesterday I would have said don't have it done! Of course I had mine done Fri and was back at school Mon morning. I ran a low grade temp for a few days too. But around 1:00 yesterday I started feeling better. Except for the pain in my left shoulder, the occasional gas pain in my stomach, and the restriction I'm feeling so much better. I'm black & blue and my port site is tender but I'm so glad I did this!
  12. Is it normal that I look like I'm in my third trimester? I'm walking and taking GasX but this bloating sucks!
  13. I FARTED!!! Never in my life have I been this excited to pass gas!
  14. I had my surgery yesterday. My tongue has a numb spot on it - left side tip and a little bit up from there. Has anyone experienced this?

  16. Thanks victoriab! Sipping on some peppermint tea right now!
  17. My shoulder and neck hurt so bad it just about made me pass out. I've been doing Gasx but it doesn't help. On the heating pad now
  18. How do I get rid of this gas! I was banded today and I'm miserable
  19. Hi sistercin! I'm also getting banded Friday! I'm 5'7" and my starting weight was 210. I'm down to 198. I have degenerative arthritis in my back and I had back surgery in May of last year. So my neurosurgeon advised me to be on low side of my height weight scale. I'm shooting for 130. I'm paying for mine also. High protein liquid diet.....it sucks. Good luck to you!
  20. I'm not looking forward to anymore protein shakes but my Dr is pretty strict about the first two weeks of diet after banding with plication. So far I'm down 8lbs. Congratulations on your successful banding.
  21. You can also add 1 Tbsp (or more to taste) of sugar free instant pudding. Banana cream with bananas or chocolate with a tbsp of peanut butter makes yummy protein shakes.
  22. My Dr told me the reason alcohol was more potent for bystanders was because it stayed in the pouch for a longer period before moving to your stomach where even more alcohol was absorbed. Makes sense I guess.
  23. I'm super excited! My surgery is this Fri April 19. I have to pick up a prescription for phenergan tomorrow and pack my bag for the surgery center. I know that lap band isn't a miracle for weight loss, but after years of battling an extra 50-80lb excess, it feels like one. Honestly the turning point for me was my lumbar discectomy and fusion. My neurosurgeon advised me to be on the low side of my healthy weight. I haven't seen that in 27 years!
  24. As with anything, you'll find more horror stories on the internet than you'll find success stories. I have followed bariatric surgery since it first came to the United States. I have read thousands of articles and watched every YouTube video I found. I'm completely comfortable with my decision to get lap band surgery. I'm not going to be a prisoner to obesity any longer. This is a personal decision. Only you can make it and if you go into this filled with doubts, it can only give you a negative experience.
  25. I started my pre-op diet last Friday. I'm scheduled for banding April 19! After 20+ years of yo-yo dieting, I'm ready for this. I'm not even nervous! Of course I had back surgery in May so this won't even compare!
