Hi all! Was banded last yr april 30th, weighed 265 and im now 170. Last oct I developed acid reflux, sucks! I went in for an unfill last oct ftom 4.5cc to 2.5cc. So my weight has stabilized for the past few months I've been at 170 which im about 20lbs from my goal weight. But here in the past week the reflux has returned. Its like it comes and goes. I have prescribed nexium and it helps some but not the way I thought it would. And I only reflux at night. Ill wake up out of my sleep vomiting and sometimes it comes out my nose. I don't have much restriction idk what I should do! Get more out?

You may already know all of this...

What time of day do you take Nexium? And, do you take it daily? When I was having episodes at night, my doc told me to make sure I took the medication at bedtime. In addition, the medication should be taken daily, even when there are no symptoms.

I was banded in 2006, I lost 80 pounds, but then started having the same reflux issues as you. Ultimately I had to had all my fill removed to stop the reflux. I tried reducing my fill many times and taking prescription Prilosec and ended up removing all my fill so I could get some sleep and not have to sleep sitting up.So now I have a tool that I am unable to use. I'm frustrated, but now able to sleep.

Yep I understand but sleep is more important. I guess I'll go and get more out and go from there. I never had issues with acid reflux and it sucks

Same story; I had lap band surgery in April 2012.

Every time I get near the 'green zone', I have MAJOR bouts of reflux, with it being worse at night.

I taken Nexium daily (and did so BEFORE the band), my lap band doctor's only suggestion was a complete UNFILL.

So, I asked my family doctor about it. She added omeprazole (morning) AND prescription Zantac 150 at bed time.

My question is how does the lap band help me do the work if it is going to stay empty ** urgh **

PPIs should be taken on an empty stomach at least 4 hours before bedtime. I have a reminder set on my iphone to take mine between 3 & 4pm so I'm not eating for at least 2 hours after taking it. Also if taking antacids, avoid Tums, Rolaids, etc. gaviscon is ok. I got this info from my band doctor and as soon as I started following this regimine, my nighttime reflux is very much improved.

Thanks for all the advice!! No I dont take me nexium every day, I would only take it when I noticed the symptoms of me getting reflux, but I guess now maybe I should be taking it everyday. Acid reflux is all new to me, I see my doctor on the 26th and ill get checked out and go from there

PPIs don't work immediately, so taking them has to be a regular thing, every day, every other day. Also, when discontinuing them you need to "ramp down" gradually or suffer rebound reflux.

Sounds like me. 10 mths ago, I started incessant coughing at night and before long, the reflux started. I slept on 3 pillows on my back only. I took RX Prilosec, OTC Zantac, and chewed Tums like they were candy. I still woke up nightly with stomach acid on my pillow, vomiting up acid, and a sore throat. My husband talked me into seeing my dr. I had a minor slip. After almost a year of unfills/fills/tweaks, I no longer have reflux but I also no longer have decen5 restriction. I've gained 21 lbs in the past year.

Debating whether to demand my dr fix it or just die i hate diteting and thats why i got the band. So I'd never have tondiet again. I really don't want to do the 4 wk liquid diet and get fills 6 hrs away until my green zone.

Maybe ill just suffer with a less than optimal band and just watch what I eat. What a concept

Marci

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
