1/2 cup a food????

I wanted to know how many people really eat only a half a cup of food per meal. I have a bigger band at 14cc with 5cc of fluid in it. I'm eating about a little under a cup but my Dr. Wants me at 1/2 cup. What do y'all think?

  • 3 oz weighed is different than 4 oz volume. A measuring cup is volume. If you read European recipes they are in grams (weighed) vs American ones which are by volume (cups).

  • I have a 14cc band. I eat less to 1/2 a cup. Yes you will but not for a while. It will be satisfying. Everyone is different don't compare yourself to anyone it will happen when your body is ready

  • IF I were to be restricted enough to only be able to eat half a cup slowly nd be satisfied, I wouldn't be able to swallow water!

Ok that would make sense. I was told to always measure volume, never use a food scale and do not count calories.

So when you guys talk about volume which totally makes more sense to me than weight do you imagine (or physically do) your whole meal cut up small into a cup, inc veg, salad etc?

I cut everything up and measure in a half cup. The exceptions for me are if I eat something like soup that is very watery I will allow myself a little more and I take a guess if eat raw veggies but I always verify if I have questions with the nurse on my monthly appointment. Also I don't over eat. I stop when I feel satisfied. Usually that is half of breakfast. When I get hungry I drink 16 or more ounces of water before I eat again.. Most people I know measure every thing they eat or drink and track them on my fitness pal or I use spark people. People who track lose twice as much as people who don't. Also with tracking it helps keep track of what foods work for you better then others and how long you stay satisfied.

Thanks for that. I was given a laminate of a small side plate sectioned off Half is protein and the other half is sectioned for a small portion if carbs and rest veg. To me if I was to put that on the plate and transfer to a cup it's a lot more than a cupful. I do track on My Fitness pal and have done for past month. I am amazed when you actually track the calories you take (or don't take)

I have found it a great help x

Oh and how big is this cup. What can I compare it to?

A US cup holds 8 oz...fluids, flour, sugar etc...I weigh proteins as it's more accurate. I'm from the UK (Sleaford) but I live in Las Vegas and I know we don't measure by the cup in the UK and I was confused when I first came here! :)

I only do half cup Meals which is 4 oz.
