Phentermine anyone?

Recommended Posts

I am going to a doctor who specializes in diet/nutrition and prescribes phentermine for hunger suppression. I have 40 lbs to get to my first goal of 100 lbs lost and feel I need some help - my fill is good.

Has anyone gone this route?

I did phentermine about 5 years ago. I had major hot flashes, was dizzy and it made my mouth extremely dry. But, it definitely worked at speeding up my metabolism and decreasing my appetite. I did not stick with it though because of the way it made me feel. I tried Meridia a few months ago, I thought phentermine made me feel bad, but the Meridia was ten times worse.

Yup, I take phentermine on occasion. My fill is fine, but sometimes I get this obsession with food and can't quit nibbling past my band, or I'm just stuck on a plateau and need to shake myself off of it. I usually only take 1/2 tablet and it does me right. I can't take it 2 days in a row, either, because of the jittery feeling. I don't like that. But, yeah, it helps.

I loved phentermine. I lost 100 lbs doing that and Adkins 2 years ago. Of course I gained 80 back, which is why I got my band last month.

If you can get a prescription for phentermine and don't have any health problems, it should help you. I loved the extra energy in the morning and it really helped control the appetite. Although I think after being on it for 12 months I got a little addicted.

I took it pre- band and it had bad side effects!! I was nervous, jittery, and had no sex drive, but it gave me a great buzz! I had a lot more energy, so I stayed on it for about 12 months. I lost 35 pounds in about a year. After finding out from my doctor that my B/P was elevated and I had to have another medication added, I stopped taking it. It is not supposed to be "addictive", but I sure craved it for a few weeks after my last dose.

I took it for years and probably just damaged my liver, cause I sure didn't lose any weight. I'd give it plenty of thought b4 starting it.

My follow-up doctor prescribes Phentermine as a part of the entire Lap-Band process. I've been on it for 6 months and it does help with appetite suppression. It helps with appetite suppression but it doesn't last forever as our body adjusts and builds up a tolerance.

Hope this helps.

Now that's been around a long, long time. I took it in the 80's. I was up all night doing housework-BLAH...could'nt sleep, dry mouth, talking a mile a minute and driving everyone nuts with my cleaning. I did lose 70 lbs. on it, but as always with any diet I gained it back. It was mostly the sleeplessness that bothered me. Now, I could use it occasionally to clean this place, but can't take it because of my heart....wow that would cause major arrhythmias.

I took it a couple of years ago & I lost 70 lbs. I was like the energizer bunny on meth! My house was never so clean. I loved it though. If you do take it, make sure you get a script for a sleeping pill too. Otherwise, you'll be up all night.

You know, I take 1/2 tenuate every now and then.

It helps curb my appetite. Ive noticed that if I take it on an empty stomach, I get all the crazy side effects. But if I eat something and take it with a little food - the jitters are much better, and i dont feel like Im on speed.

You can try this with the G/adipex and see if it works.

I took it and lost about 40 pounds in no time pre banding. I had no side effects except when you stop taking them the weight comes back and then some.

I am wanting to try it, too. My fill is perfect. Its the munchies that get me! My sister takes (she is not banded) and has lost 20 lbs in just a couple of months. So I think I am about to see if my surgeon will give me a script. I know my insurance won't pay for it - that is the only bummer.

macmamma, my ins. didn't pay for it either. The generic was about $35 for a month's supply, but I never did take it daily. It's "for occasional use only" over here! It DOES help with the munchies. I'm taking one this morning. WAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! (opera singer voice) now, the laundry, the bathrooms, the vacuuming, the dishes, the dusting, oh, and the closets and the driveway...here I go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I too have been given drugs in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and the year 2002 I fell for it again. I don't think they are the answer. It didn't help me learn new eating habits, deal with issues, or learn from bad choices. It definitely was a crutch. Along the way I too have had my trusted doctors arrested, found guilty, and serving time in jail. :) If you can, go with the band and learn somehow to control the hunger. Try exercising or some activity other than food to see if the hunger will go away. Just my 2cents from someone who has tried them all.

I have found phentermine quite effective, but Meridia more effective. Currently I alternate these two.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
