I am new to the forum and strongly considering lap band. I just don't know where to start. My insuance, Capital Health Plan located in Tallahassee, Florida will pay for the surgery. What is my next step. I am at a loss. this seems to be overwhelming.

The first step is to find a dr that the insurance will cover. Start with the insurance company... Do they offer referrals? Do you need a referral from a primary doc? Then make an appointment, go to a seminar and read everything you can on living the life of a lap band patient.

Research Weight Loss Surgery centers in your area. Find a hospital or center and attend one of their seminars. The WLS (weight loss surgery) coordinator will point you in the right direction. Most programs require a handful or pre-op testing and appointments with nutritionist, psychologist, etc, but the coordinator will help you along the way. Good luck!
