Gained Weight Since Surgery

Recommended Posts

Was banded August 24, 2012. I lost weight on my pre-op diet, I think about 13 pounds. Then I lost a bunch more weight after surgery, for a total of 25 pounds. But this last week I have gained weight :( I think about 8 pounds. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I'm on the mushy food stage and I have been eating good and not big portions.

It's because you've gone from liquids only to mushies. On liquid only you were probably taking in very few calories, then when you get on mushies you add all kinds of things that are typically higher in calories. Alot of people gain a little when they go onto mushies.

Just continue to do your best to get your protien and Water in.

and throw away your scale.

Lol! Good advice, but, oh so, difficult to do.

Keep the scale. If you don't know you're gaining weight, how can you pin down the offending food? How do you know if you're making headway when you don't know where you are?

It's probably fluids you're retaining. Especially if you are consuming a lot of sodium or any carbs?

Relax, it's a very very long journey and no need to fret over small speed bumps along the way.

Hi Princess,

This is quite normal! Your body is in the healing process so you should be worried about that instead of losing weight right now. Many factors, body Fluid, that time of the month, salty foods, etc.

The weight will come off, just be patient!

Best of luck you are doing great :)

well...drs and the medical profession need SOMEWHERE to gage - do you? I’m doing this so I can be more active - so I can walk run jump swim skate and play with my kiddo - i’m doing this so next summer and the summer after and the summer after that I won’t sit inside and lament why I don’t go outside - size WHATEVER doesn’t dictate my happiness - and let me tell you - because my career is dealing with people who are the “ideal” size - not everyone in a size (fill in the blank) is oh so full of joy - I always thought that girl in the cute skirt or awesome jeans had it all - and know what - she DOESN’T...a skirt/jean size doesn’t bring bliss...that comes from the inside...fix that while your fixing the other stuff cause honestly - that’s as important...and that isn’t measured by a scale and never will be.

just my humble opinion...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
