Help!! So I was instructed to go on a liquid diet 2 weeks before my surgery which is Aug 23rd. Can anyone provide me with some advise to stay on track because I am afraid I'm not going to be able to just have liquids!

Check your level of motivation to be successful with diet compliance post op...What are your reasons and goals for having this surgery? Write them down, and refer to them often.

The liquid diet was the most difficult part of this journey for me; and I'm certain there are others who would agree. Things which helped me the most were to structure my time and shakes...so that the shakes were what "replaced" meals, and have a variety of liquid choices available. I had a craving for salt, and chicken broth was the only thing which helped. Don't forget you can also have SF Jello and SF popsicles.

The other major help for me was to stay busy so that I could distract myself and not think of eating. If you have other family members in your home, you may want to be in a different room with them during their meals.

The time does go by...take it a day at a time.

Are you strictly on liquids for those two weeks? My surgeon put me on 2 liquid meals per day and then dinner with 2-3 ou. of Protein and veggies. Even doing that I lost 10 lbs. in the 2 weeks.

I agree with the first post too, keep yourself busy and occupied. Distracting yourself helps and when you start to see results in the scale that is a great motivator too! I was sooo excited to weigh myself and see pounds coming off so it helped tremendously. I am now 1 week post-op and on full liquids and am struggling with that too. I am happy to be going back to work today so I can have more distractions from not eating.

Taking it one day at a time and each day realizing you are one day closer to your surgery and your "new life" will help. :)

Best of luck!

i was all liquids 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after:

i thought the same thing. but you know what, i realized i was stronger than what my mental mind gave me credit for.

this diet is designed to shrink your liver. not punish you. sure its hard. for me the first 3 days were the worst (i was a diet coke addict) and i did have a good headache those days. but sugar free popsicles and crystal light (alot of drinking) saved me. if you cheat on the diet, you may read some on here say its ok and not to worry, that is not true. please do not cheat. if you cheat on your post op it could seriously hurt you. so be strong NOW.

you just need to go one day at a time. or one hour at a time

My surgeon gave me 3 different options for the 2 weeks. 1. A very high (90-100g) Protein which is written up

2. Do the 3rd Phase of Atkins

3. A Protein Shake Meal Replacement with very light Snacks.

Today starts my 2 weeks. I'm doing a mixture of the 3. Because I work nights I will Do a protein shake dinner. Ect.

Good luck and find what works for you. I love the idea of making a list of why I'm doing this. I'm doing it right now!! It will defiantly keep me on track!! Ty:)!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
