Post Surgery: Do You Have Problems With Carb Addiction ?

Bandsters:

Was curious....after you get the surgery...we all know you can't eat as much (especially not as many carbs such as bread and pasta) which brings me to this question:

1) After having the surgery, do you go through "carb withdrawls" and is hard for you to adjust not eating as many carbs?

I've heard people saying "head hunger" alot but (to me anyway) this is just a case of "missing taste" and that can be easily be solved by a nice Soup or something with a little salt. However, not having as many carbs...this is a whole nother question. Being that I've had carb withdrawls in the past before....I'm wondering what its going to be like after surgery?

Thoughts/Opinions?

Thanks Bandsters !

Sounds like there is not alot of stress related to taking in less carbs post surgery.

P.S. Can anybody confirm this ?

If someone is used to eating crap they shouldn't and expects to suddenly be "cured" of that because of surgery, then, yeah, they might find themselves stressed out due to unrealistic expectations.

My doc doesn't restrict carbs after surgery, but when your stomach becomes significantly smaller and getting the Protein you need becomes paramount, you will have to choose between living a more healthy life or continuing to eat the junk that got us here in the first place.

I'm not cutting all carbs out, I'm basically "practicing" cutting out the foods that cannot take precedence in my diet post-op (foods that never should have from the beginning).

I'm a week in after surgery. I've had only liquids for a week. Before the surgery I was two days just on liquids. Those two days before were hard for me. After the surgery however I was not hungry for anything, up until the 2nd day after the band surgery. Yes... missing food will be there I'm finding out. I was told to fill up on protein with a protein drink. It has helped.

Help!!! I had surgery on march 19. I have not had any restriction until now!! I had my first fill and could still eat a lit!! Then two weeks ago i had another fill. I felt a little different but was able to eat. Well today i went again for a fill. I got home and tried to eat and it got stuck or something. Im in sooo much pain and im miserable right now. Slime in my mouth. Sick. Hurts!! Help!!

you should be on liquids the first 24 hr after a fill due to swelling.

Here are a couple of websites that explain how in some cases caffeine is associated with ulcers. I am sure it is just in extreme cases but if you already experience reflux or IBS ( like I do), it might be best to stay away from it.

Thanks for the forward. Will check it out. In terms of caffeine, I've been drinking a pot of coffee a day for almost 20 years. I know its not good (so don't stone me for this) but never had any experience in terms of reflux or anything like that.

Now that I'm married....my wife makes me coffee everyday that is not as strong and notice I drink alot less coffee now. Anyway, I'll check those links out.

Success to you !

Unfortunately the "mushy phase" is usually carbs. I went through carb withdrawal pee opt then had to have some soft foods like cream of wheat and pudding and some mashed potatoes and now I feel like I need to try again bc I am starving and craving. Haven't had a fill yet.
