Am I Normal?

I'M 6 days post op. I can't consume more than 300 calories per day. I feel dehydrated. Per the nurses orders I drank magnesium citrate yesterday which of course led to chronic diarrhea. Still have lingering gas and shoulder pain, all I want to do is sleep. I feel myself getting depressed. It hurts to drink anything I wonder if three sips at a time is to much....Amy thoughts? I have my one week f/ u with doc on Thursday.

I ended up eating blended soup the first week. I wish someone had set me down and said OK THIS IS GOUNG TO HAPPEN..

I went through True Results

You should rest you will feel like you have no energy ( you just had surgery) concentrate on clear liquids little sips, coconut water with flavoring has good hydration effects. Don't do too much you are healing.

Don't get depressed. I had these crazy emotions in the beginning too. A sense of loss, losing myself, feeling like no one understands my loss...food a new life change. Just keep your eye on the prize... A healthier you!!!! Sure it's going to take a couple weeks even a month to really feel like the old you...or new you!!!! You are awesome for taking in a change that could save your life. That is brave and your decision. You will get out of this "funk" I promise!!!! If u need to talk I'm here. Lora

Lora thank yo! I'm Michele my email is buffalogyrl@gmail.com. Right now I'm trying to muster the strength to get out of bed to feed my poor dog

Well I am a day and a half post op and my entire torso hurts with more pain in my shoulders. What causes your shoulder to hurt? My stomach is bloated and it hurts when I go from standing to sitting or vise versa But it's not intolerable. I like seeing all of you say it will get better! Thank you all!

The shoulder pain is from the gas...i know it sounds crazy, but thats what its from. The gas of course being from all the Co2 they fill ya up with during surgery to make room for them to manuver around. I read on here some people said it lasted 2 weeks...and I cried when i read it..mine was bad for about 5 days, and more bareable from days 6-8..then it was gone. Get up and walk. I live in a two bedroom apartment, about every 20-30 mins i would get up and go down our small hallway and back twice...and sit back down...it definitely helped.

It was the same for me, shoulder pains, gas, not able to eat but it really does get better. I kept a hotpad on my shoulder and drank peppermint tea. I think about the end of week 2 I notice considerable change for the better. I did get depressed the first two weeks as well since I wasn't eating, not sure what was going on but support from the nursing staff, forum and family helped. Just know it does get better. I am 5 weeks post op and feel great. Walking 5 miles a day and looking forward to my fill since I have no restriction most of the time. Just making sure I don;t put any more than 4 tblsp of food on my plate at one time, eating protein first, veg and then carb. Drinking through the day and trying to get in 8 glasses. No regrets so far.

Oh thank you for saying all these things! I think I am feeling better today. Not as sore and I just sipped down a protein drink with no problems. I hope the next couple of weeks fly by!

The shoulder pain is gas. I was lucky and had none, but my doc said to take chewable gas-X if it happened. Walk, walk, walk. It moves the gas around and out. Pardon my frankness, but The first few months I was a farting machine, especially once I had some food. Sip the shakes slowly and I promise the depression will pass too. It is normal. Hang in there. BUT, if you really feel something is off physically or mentally, call the doctor. They are there for YOU.

I feel good! Yesterday I ate almost 50 grams of protein! I had a come to Jesus talk with myself and decided that the world won't end if I give up my vegan ways for a couple of months! So I decided to introduce Geek yogurt into my life and made my favorite tofu egg salad! Well 600 calories 50 grams of protein and 30 oz of water and Gatorade later and I feel brand new! Thanks for all the encouraging words.. I'm on the mend!
