Coffee Loosens The Band???

I have been banded for 5 months and recently gave up coffee and wine for lent, but I just read a post and it said that coffee loosens the band?? Is this true? I have 7cc's and I had good restriction at first but then it seems like I can eat more now. At the time, I was drinking coffee every morning. I would have about 3-4 cups with no food. Wondering minds want to know??

If coffee was loosening your band, and you gave it up, you should have more restriction then before. I have been told hot drinks loosen the band, but haven't found that to be the case for me. I think everyone is different. Since you have less restriction it could be you've lost weight and the band has loosened because you have lost fat around the stomach. You may want to make an appointment to meet with your doc. about a fill. Good luck!

I drink coffee every morning and I don't feel that it loosens my band. I still drink a protein shake afterwards for breakfast because I'm just not hungry.

I don't think that's correct. I could even have coffee on the liquid portion of the post-op diet. Heck, they even serve coffee at the Lap Band Center I go to.

If that was true it'd be on the "no-no" list like carbonated beverages.

From my understanding it doesn't loosen band. My nutritionist shy me away from coffee and/or sweet tea because of the caffeine content. U will get dehydrated if u drink alot of it. I was told I can drink it but maybe decaf if I'm gonna have alot of it. Sodas same thug because if caffeine content but also because of carbonation. I was told also if I drink it use sugar substitute. Your band loosens as you lose weight, which is why u need adjustments over time.

Also I've been banded 18 months in march. And had to have adjustments when I lost weight when I didn't get same restriction anymore
