Silly Requirement Question..

I have Cigna and in the 6th and final month of my supervised diet. Had the sleep study, psyche eval all done..

Question is.. During this supervised diet, I really haven't lost any weight.. in fact may have gained a few after holidays..

You think I will get "shot down" for the surgery?

Thanks..

You probably will be okay. During my 6 month supervised diet, the surgeon gave me phen. He did not want me to take any after 6 months, tho'. It, and the nutritionist visit, helped me loose 25-30 lbs. But, not everyone is like that, my son lost 6, because the surgeon did not want him to loose anymore than that, he was borderline BMI. The insurance company wants to make sure that you can follow a plan. Good luck. Karen

For me and my insurance, it was a little different.

First, my Surgeon didn't care less about the 6 month supervised diet. It was between me and my insurance co. Just one more hoop to jump through.

Before they approved the surgery, they wanted to be sure I have exhausted other alternatives. My word, or the word of non-medical people such as weight watchers, jenny craig, etc, is not sufficient. It had to be a Dr. who signed off on the paperwork. Wether I gained or lost was not the issue. It was to show that standard diet methods was not enough, and surgery was the only/last/best alternative.

Once I got finished jumping through all the hoops for the insurance co., THEN my surgeon wanted me to loose 20lbs just for the surgical procedure only, to shrink the liver.

In my situation it was the doctor who made weight loss requirements. Well his nurse actually. She said I had to loose 10% body weight so 30-33 pounds. After I had lost 20 and met with the surgeon he said from feeling my abdomen he would could have done the surgery that day. Some doctors
