Would be interested to hear if anyone has. I am being banded on 11/28/11 and I have Alpha-1 Liver disease, which is why I am being banded :-)

What is Alpha-1 liver disease and why is that the reason for the banding? I know that a fatty liver goes along with obesity. That is why most surgeons require a two week pre-op liquid only diet. It shrinks some of the fat off the liver, making it easier to place the band around the upper stomach area. But I am not familiar with the liver disease you mentioned.

I have Fatty Liver too, and hepatatic damage. Alpha-1 is a rare genetic liver disease that highly increases the chance of COPD, Lung Cancer, Liver Cancer and Cirrhosis.

I am 6'0.5" and 281 lbs, with ALL of my weight directly in my belly the doctors say my risk is even worse. Besides no drinking, no smoking, no processed foods the single most beneficial thing I can do is lose weight and be a good example for my two young daughters who also have Alpha-1

BTW it is Alpha-1 Awareness month !

Good information. Lap Band, which does not involve rerouting the digestive tract or cutting away the stomach seems like it would do nothing but good for your liver disease.Best of luck!
