What are clear liquids?

I know dumb question right? Well I thought I knew what they were until my nutritionist mentioned things like tea and jello in the list. I don't get what clear liquids are. She said I would be on it for 4 days. Does she mean anything liquid? I am ask for sure Friday after my surgery, but just curious now.

I guess it's kinda common sense but this was a little confusing to me too. But right after my surgery, before I went home, I asked the post-op nurse what "clear liquids" meant exactly. She said "any liquid you can see through" she said, water, jello, sugar free ice pops, chicken broth/stock (low sodium low fat is pretty see through) and sports drinks like gatorade (I love the low calorie ones, I lived on them my first month post-op, I still drink them during work outs and after fills). No thick fluids like creamy soups/protein shakes or anything you can't see through, like coffee or milk I would assume.

Clear liquids are basically anything you could possibly see through. Here's a list from Mayo Clinic

Plain water
Fruit juices without pulp, such as apple juice, grape juice or cranberry juice
Strained lemonade or fruit punch
Clear, fat-free broth (bouillon or consomme)
Clear sodas
Plain gelatin
Honey
Ice pops without bits of fruit or fruit pulp
Tea or coffee without milk or cream

Don't have soda even though the post above shows it on the Mayo Clinic list!!!!!!
