I heard that Xenical, a prescription drug intended to block the absorption of fat you eat, is going to be over-the-counter pretty soon.

Has anyone taken it? Did it work? Would you take it?

I'm wondering if it would help us bandsters.

I took it years ago..it did not work for me..all it did was make a mess in my toilet with layers of greasy fat & oil making an orange ring around my toilet bowl..not to mention it made me feel like I had the runs al lthe time..I had runny orange, oily bowel movements from the fat that was blocked coming out in my BM's..not a pretty sight..especially in a public restroom

My Cousin took xenical and lost over 40lbs. She was very happy and ate what she wanted but lost weight. Only problem, she had anal leakage:faint: she had to wear pads-large ones-because the fat would seep through her clothes. Imagine that.:omg:

Ditto on yucky! I tried it but gave up after just a few weeks especially because I didn't really lose weight - maybe a couple of lbs that's all. It only blocks fats so if someones eating a lot of other things it won't help them.

Now as a bandster I would worry about taking it because with a limited diet (band imposed) and better diet (hopefully self imposed) it would probably deplete the necessary fats our body needs. Although OTC will probably be a lesser strength than prescription.

I took it for a few months 2-3 years ago. Was greasy movements, with some running to toilet. Maintained weight primarily, did not loose much. It may work ocasionally when you knew you were eating greasy foods, just be ready to go.

I'm pretty sure there was another thread about this a while back. The general consensus was that it gave most of us the greasy nasty oily craps.

How does crapping yourself on your couch sound? Happened to me while taking Xenical. So I'd say - thanks, but no thanks.

I was told it was being pulled off the market all together. I took it for 2 weeks and had the same problem as everyone else. My doc said it was being pulled because some people were unable to regain bowel control even after stopping the meds. ~Mandy

Warning: the following is extremely gross! I took Xenical for about two months, and what I remember most about it is what my husband would excitedly refer to as "the orange oil" which is when instead of the normal poo, orange oil would shoot out of my bum like I was peeing. For some bizarre reason, my husband thinks that any out-of-the-ordinary poo of any kind is really funny, so he used to get a big kick out of it. But it was no picnic for me, that's for sure!

Oh darn, I was really hoping to try it once it became "over the counter". My friends and I were gonna buy one bottle and share it to see who could tolerate it and who couldn't.

I Have used Xenical pre surgery and one of my many attempts at loosing weight. I got minimal results. You need to monitor very carefully your fat intake. If you eat too much fat the unpleasant complications are bowel leakage, urgent trips sometimes not making it to the bathroom, nausea and stomach cramping. It was not worth taking for the minimal results.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
