I am newly banded. on may 13th it wil be a month. Well, today i got up and prepared 1/4 cup eggbeaters and shredded cheese. Lat night I decided that today i will take concious small bites and chew bites 3 minutes apart. I have no fill. I still get the stuck feeling that i was told happens when you chew to fast. Or eat too much. I didnt finish the 1/4 cup of eggbeaters. I do not know when im full. I still feel a slight stuck feeling in my throat like i ate to much or chewed too fast. When does this get better? Is this normal? I guess i will never get a fill because if i cant get 1/4 eggbeaters down i do not need more restriction. I have lost 14 pounds but i can care less about the weight loss. I am more concerned about the process of being able to get my nutients in. Yes, i spoke to my doctor he said i am eating to fast and not chewing enough. Can someone out there help me to get a better understanding of how the food passes from above the band through the band. How long does the process take? Does anyone have a video or can give me a time span on how long it takes one chewed bite to go through the band?

Possibilities,1) maybe i am irritated from chewing to fast or eating too much in the past.

2)Maybe i cant get food to pass easily in the am. Although this happens in the afternoon as well.

Lost on this journey.

It is normal to be tighter in the morning. Feeling stuck on a 1/4 c of food isn't ok. I would call your doc. for sure and tell him/her what's going on. In the meantime I would supplement what your able to eat with protien shakes. Hopefully those will go down ok. I use myoplex lite, you can get them at Sams or Walmart. Hope you feel better soon! Take care.

Sometimes eggs can be tough; they have caused me problems in the past, especially early in the morning. I too have no fill.

I'd advise drinking something hot before you eat anything in the morning. Tea/coffee work fine. Bands are often tighter in the morning so you may have to drink something hot to help loosen it up a bit.

Also, be sure you are truly taking small bites. I am known and still am known to shovel in food, as I like to call it. You may find using baby utensils can help or using a teaspoon as opposed to a tablespoon. Make sure when you take a bite that it is a pretty small amount. Big amounts, while you may chew well, can slip down before you chew them, which may be causing the sensation you're experiencing.

Good luck!

thanks vlp1968 for your response. It is not truly something stuck. It feels like something is in my throat but nothing is there. It is this feeling i get after I have eaten. I feel it when i am finished eating not during. I was told my stoma is irritated from chewing to fast or eating too much. I have never thrown up or had a traditional stuck episode. I seem to be in this place and i do not know how to get out. I try to eat slow and chew well this is so difficult to me. Could that be the issue, that i am eating to fast and eating too much?

Thanks

thanks reverie i will get some small utensils and drink warm drinks in the am. I will try to slow down. I do have a huge problem with that. Should I do something to reverse the irritation and stuck feeling i feel moving forward. I will go in to my doctor next week. Thanks

Papaya enzymes may help. I'd also advise putting yourself on an eating schedule; eat before you get too hungry. I find if I eat smaller meals more frequently I am able to keep hunger at bay, therefore I am not desperate to scarf down my food like there's no tomorrow. I eat every 2-3 hours, for hunger's sake, not for any false "it's better for my metabolism" reasons.

Good luck!

Echoing what others said, I have hot tea first thing in the morning. I don't think I could eat real food within hours of waking up if I didn't. The hot tea feels like it opens me up, and allows me to swallow my meds that I can't get in chewable form (and hate the taste of crushed). I like to do greek yogurt for Breakfast because it goes down easily. Good luck to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
