I am having surgery 1/17 by dr onopchenko out of Atlantic city nj. The Thursday before the week of your surgery they have every one come in to the hospital for what they call boot camp. I was just wondering if anyone else has experience this with their own surgeons. Apparently we are doin some pre-op tests just before surgery but we will be there from 10 am till 7pm! Im just curious what to expect. Thanks for the help in advance.

I've never heard anything like that. Maybe informative stuff like a seminar? You should call and ask, and then come back and tell us. Lol

I know I am going in a week before surgery to meet the anathesiologist and take ekg and bloodwork. If a whole group is coming in a the same time, maybe that is why it takes so long? After that hospital visit i have to go to my doctors office for a visit with him to go over all the previous test results (blood work, phych eval, nut eval, sleep study etc) and he'll talk about the surgery itself. Maybe it is similar?

I had a meeting with the anathesiologist, ekg and bloodwork. Then I had a 1.5 hour meeting with one of the nurses to discuss exactly what would happen before and after surgery. Then there was a 1.5 hour meeting with the nutrionist to discuss the month after surgery and what we should and should not eat. The test part probably took 2 hours so that makes about 5 hours. The nurse and Nutrianist were group meetings.

I have not heard it called "boot camp" but I am required to attend an all day Pre-Op appt. as well. I am out of Florida Hospital Celebration(Orlando) and the day includes classes on nutrition and exercise, hospital pre registration,meeting with the Doctor and an exercise physiologist to test my metabolism. All this lasts about the same amount of time as yours does. I look at it as a good thing, they are being very thorough.

i went to "boot camp" thursday and it was pretty cool. They had 8 of us have a meeting with the head nurse on the OR floor that specializes in just lapband surgery/recovery. it was very informative bacause we could ask whatever questions we had. we also did a couple preop test blood/urine tests and talked to the anesthesiologist. then went back to the surgeons office to have a checkup with him. it wasnt quite as long as i was told i was home by 4
