I don't know if I'm full or not!

Recommended Posts

My band was placed on Dec. 29 2010. I wasn't told how much to eat, only to eat full liqiuds. Now I'm seeing other sites( and this one) talk about only 1/2 cup at each meal. Is this right? I've been able to take down more than 1/2 cup with no problems. If I have 1/3 of my Protein Shake, a cup of Soup or a cuo of yogurt and maybe some Jello at one meal, I'm fine. I'm full at that point. Then I eat the same at the other 2 meals. But maybe I'm full and eating more than I should. I can't tell. The first four days, I was full and not experiencing any hunger,. Now I'm beginning to be hungry in between meals. I think.. I'm finding it hard to know if I'm really humgry or not. Should I be eating less? Is the 1/2 cup a meal I'm reading about just for when I get to solid foods? I've been losing 2 lbs a day since surgery, but today I had gained 1 lb. I don't have my follow-up appt. until Jan. 7th. I'm afraid of being hungry in between meals.

I had my surgery the 16th of Dec. I have had no fill so am feeling hungry. Had my follow up Dec 23 - Dr. told me I could eat anything I can mush with a fork for one week and then regular food. I am trying to count calories but so discouraged as the weight is slow in coming off. I feel like I spent 18,000 dollars for nothing,,,,cant wait for fill on 17 January

I understand djb.... I had my surgery on December 7th and I did really well controlling my hunger until Christmas. Now I am hungry just like I used to be and I don't have my first fill until 1/24. I have gained a couple pounds back and it is driving me crazy! Ugh.

1/2 cup is for when you are on food, not for liquids. You can have full Protein Shakes. You should have 3-4 full Protein shakes a day. Drink the shakes first because they have protein then supplement with Jello or yogurt. There is no restriction in your band right now, till you get a fill, so that's why you can put more in it.

Call your surgeon, or nutritionist you should have book or something that lays out everything you can eat/drink for each stage.

I'm a little discouraged, but apparently it's normal to not be losing much until your fill. Just gotta police yourself on portions!! Also 1-2lbs a week is normal. Don't expect to lose more than that!

I had surgery at the end of July 2010. I'm down about 35lbs since my surgery weigh-in. I've had 4 fills. My last weigh-in I was down 4lbs. Don't expect the weight to fall off because it's not going to and you will be disappointed. It wasn't until my last fill that I finally felt like I was really cutting back on the amount of food I eat. But, I'm not very active so I don't burn many calories. It's still all about calories in and calories out. That will never change. If I want to lose more weight I either have to eat less or burn more calories. So if my "maintenance" calorie range is 1800 per day, I have to eat less than that to lose pounds. This surgery is a way to help you cut back those calories and it will probably take you several fills to get to that point, so hang in there. It will take time.
