Go back to the doctor. My friends mom just had to have her band removed and part of her stomach. The specialist at hospital said left shoulder pain is FIRST sign of Band Erosion. You have only had for small amount of time but still that is scary!!!

Thats not good! I will be calling the doctor tomorrow. they are closed now.

NO NO! Please dont get too scared. I have 15 months post op and have dealt with shoulder pain most the time. The first 6 months mainly. Its gas pains that all. I now get the pains super bad if I drink through a straw, chew gum or sit too long (over an hour). I have every test under the sun....thats all it is. Ive done tons of research on it trust me. After any laposcopic surgery, gas likes to stay in the shoulder. Dont do anything that will cause you to suck up air... (things I listed above)

I'm not banded yet but from what i understand it takes more then 4 months for your band to erode so i wouldn't start freaking out yet. but if you feel you must see your Doc again then yes do it other then that don't stress.

Is the pain actually up in the shoulder (which could be gas) or is it in your left upper *arm*. Since my day of surgery I have had pain in my left upper arm (just past the shoulder) and, after much reading, discovered that is normal to the band. It is because the band is rubbing on the diaphragm and, while it affects one of the T vertebrae, it's actually referring the pain to the arm.

As you lose weight, the band will drop and loosen and the pain will go away. Mine didn't go away until about 7-8 months after my surgery because I was losing so slowly. I think at the point where I'd lost 40 pounds, it stopped.

Elfie- My doc said the same thing about the band rubbing the diaphram. He actually said it was the tubing from the port to the band that was doing it.
