Sleep study and apnea

I went for my sleep study last night. I had been forewarned by friends about all the wires and electrodes, but the only thing that really bugged me was whatever was attached to my throat, the tech explained it as a mic-type device so she could hear snoring better. I can't even sleep with my own hair touching my neck, never mind something like that! I was given ambien cr to put me over the edge, thank goodness.

Anyway, I assume the gasping and "heart attack" feeling I get as I am just dozing off is apnea and I will be ordered to use a CPAP machine. My surgeon made it very clear at my first visit that if apnea is present, the CPAP is required.

I would love to hear people's experiences with the sleep study as well as CPAP input. TIA! =)

I have to wait 'til the 18th 'til I go back and get my results. God am I dreading that appointment. I was wondering, if you have sleep apnea, are they going to force you to use the cpap?

Yes, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and will have to use "The Thing".. They're not "forcing" me, but have prescribed it to help eleviate my sleep apnea and allow me to get a better night's sleep - which is far healthier than I am getting now... But, rather than get all disappointed and upset about it, I am using this as the "inspiration" that I need to get the weight off - hopefully through Lap Band. So, I am trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel rather than dwell on the darkness of the tunnel itself!
