Recommended Posts

Today is my 2nd day of my pre-op diet- Im going low carb/high Protein and Ive been feeling HORRIBLE today. Headache, slight nausea, fatigue, hot flashes. Is this normal and if so, how long does it take to go away?

AmberK,

I am on day seven of the pre-op diet and it gets better. The only thing I have really noticed is I am making alot of mistakes at my job. Normally I am pretty clear-headed and work with million dollar machines, but I just seem to be in a fog.

You would think if anything I would be more clear headed than normal

Oh well, maybe it's like a heroin junkie kicking the habit..lol

Michael

It is important to follow your surgeon's pre-surgery dietary and nutritional guidelines. Not only will your pre-surgery diet help prepare your body for surgery and improve the outcome.

Thanks

Congrats on your journey! This pre-op diet is just about the worse part of the whole surgery. These 2 weeks will feel like forever, BUT you will get use to it. Any time you lower your carbs you will feel pretty yuck the first few days. I was on a 2 week liquid diet and I thought i was going to just die. Not litterally... but still. I hated it. The 3rd day I was throwing mental tantrum fits. But I got through it. Another thing that is rewarding is seeing the lbs drop as you do this diet. Just stay positive. If you have any questions, feel free! Youre well on your way!

I think it's normal. I've done the Atkins diet before and I figure the pre op diet will be pretty similar. On the first 2 weeks of Atkins you would go through a lot of symptoms. But by day 4 or 5 you'd start feeling better and your appetite would actually diminish greatly.

I'm expecting to feel pretty crappy but it's worth it!!

Thanks for the support everybody. Last night was really rough- I was hardly able to sleep even though I took one of my sleeping pills. My 2 little ones were driving me insane and I couldnt even get a break because my husband is in Barcelona until this evening.

But today is a new day and hopefully it wont be as bad.

The first three days were the worst for me, especially the headaches.

You are nearly done with the toughest part! Keep yer chin up. It will be worth it!

When my surgeon said he could tell by my liver that I had stuck to my pre-op diet, all I could do was smile. He said it made my surgery very easy for him, and that I would heal much better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
