Pre Op Diet

Hi,

I am booked in for surgery next Monday 7th June. My doctor has put me on Optislim diet for only one week. Most people seem to be on it for at least two. Hopefully one week is enough to reverse some of the damage I've done, hope he knows what he's doing so far lol.

I have had many different shakes while trying to loose weight and Optifast is absolutely the worst one I've had. It's my second day and I'm already dreading drinking the stuff. Every flavour is revolting, tastes like playdough (not that I've tasted that). So it's Optislim, Water and 1 cup of green vegies and that's it. Is this right, is there anything else you can have during pre op? I know I have a long way to go to adapt to all the changes and I am prepared for it, just wanted to know what others had during pre op.

Thanks.

Pre-op diets are vastly different from doctor to doctor. Do what yours told you to do and you'll be okay.

I know that it's frustrating, but it's only a week of your life. You can do almost anything for a week

Hang in there!

How dare you speak bad of Optifast?

I love the stuff. If the consistency is what bothers you. Try it with crushed ice.

Some people don't have a pre-op diet at all. They are just told to fast the night before surgery.

I thought a pre-op liquid diet was the norm. My surgeon doesn't require one. Any suggestions for one that doesn't require a prescription like Optifast?

Optifast isn't prescription but you need to get it from a wholesaler.

If your doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet, just keep the carbs and sugars low. That will shrink your liver.
