Try atkins, it's not to a long term healthy diet but I lost 30 lbs in a month 1 time from doing it. Of course I gained it back but if losing 12 lbs is all you need for the dr. to do surgery then I say go for it. I'm not banded yet but I will be I will have the surgery this Monday coming up. I have tried for the past month to lose weight by exercising and watching what I eat. I lost 6 lbs but I have gained almost 4 back. It is very hard to do.

You didn't mention in what time frame you need to lose the weight. There is also fasting as well. It will come off fast but for a short period of time. You can try the Slim Fast drinks twice a day and then eat a meal for either lunch or Supper.

I have a sure fire diet that will have you losing at least 10 lbs but it sucks bigtime. I lost 10 lbs in one week. I was just weak as a kitten and had no energy. But I lost that weight. LOL!! If interested then PM me.

I dropped 10 lbs before surgery doing Optifast / Glucerna with fruits/veggies to munch on.

Now, post-banding, I'm following the bandster guidelines which are to avoid bread, potatoes, rice, Pasta, sugar, etc. and have 2-3 oz of lean meat and some veggies at each meal, plus 2 cups of milk. No other caloric beverages and I get in a piece or two of fruit every day too. That plus exercise is working OK for dropping weight. It would be very hard to maintain that kind of eating plan long term without the band, but you can do anything for a few weeks.

Good luck!

I agree with trying the liquid diet. I lost 26 pounds preoperatively in 2 weeks time. It really isn't that hard to follow and if you only need to lose 12 pounds, they'll probably fly off! Let us know how you're doing and we'll be looking forward to more posts from you updating us on your progress and your upcoming surgery date.

BOOPER Congratulations!!!!!! Losing weight before the surgery helps in a couple of diffrent ways. When you do a liquid diet, it shrinks the size of your liver so it is not in the way during surgery. When I had to loose weight I gained first then I had to get focused. I first cut back on when and what (fast food) I was eating. I then began drinking a shake for breakfast and then went to 2 shakes a day. I was really looking at my future with the band and knew it was worth it.
