Mohd Y ALKAYYAL, MD FRCS FACS

M.Yasser KAYYAL, MD, FRCS, FACS. is an attending Surgeon at Tawam hospital in al ain, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He was born in Damascus, Syria, and is currently practicing in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He graduated from Aleppo University School of Medicine in Aleppo, Syria in 1994, and was trained in general surgery in Damascus, Syria, where he got his master degree in general surgery in 1999. Then he got his FRCS from the Royal college of surgeons in Ireland 2007. He is also a fellow of the American college of surgeons. His main interest is bariatric surgery; his specialty interests include advanced laparoscopic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, breast surgery and trauma. He was an active surgeon in the bariatric surgery division at Aseer central hospital, ABHA, KSA between 2004 to 2008 where he performed many bariatric procedures including laparoscopic gastric banding, gastric bypasses and sleeve as well as revisional bariatric surgery. Then he moved to tawam hospital UAE, and helped initiating the first fellowship program in bariatric surgery, as the first fellow in this field in the whole middle east, this was between 02/2010 and 02/2011. He was an invited speaker for numerous national surgical meetings and workshops. He is a member of the European association of Endosopic surgery EAES, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons SAGES, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity IFSO, Syrian Medical Association, and he is a member of the scientific committee for the Mediterranean & Middle Eastern Endoscopic Surgery Association MEMMSA. He is an ATLS instructor, as well as a faculty member in the laparoscopic training courses held at the Clinical Skills Training Center at the faculty of medicine and health sciences FMHS, al ain, UAE.
