About W. J Suggs
Dr. Suggs is a board-certified, Center of Excellence bariatric and general surgeon who performs a variety of bariatric surgical procedures including the laparoscopic gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, distal gastric bypass for the super-morbidly obese, and revisional bariatric surgery. In addition to his subspecialization in bariatric surgery, Dr. Suggs has an interest in anorectal disorders as well as all areas of general surgery. Dr. Suggs has been in practice 10 years and is a native of north Alabama, residing in Decatur with his wife and 3 daughters. He graduated from UAB Medical School after receiving degrees in biology and chemistry from Emory University, after which he completed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and completed a fellowship in bariatric surgery at the University Medical Center- Princeton in New Jersey. Dr. Suggs has published articles on bariatric and colorectal surgery, and is active in teaching medical students and surgical technology students. He is currently an associate professor of surgery at UAB (Huntsville campus) as well as an adjunct assistant professor with the School of Osteopathic Medicine- Arizona. Dr. Suggs also serves on overseas medical mission's trips.
