Melanie L Hafford, MD
Dr. Hafford specializes in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. Growing up outside of Atlanta, Georgia, her interests in medicine and public health were cultivated at Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. She was selected to intern at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC via an American Medical Association grant, and worked on national health policy initiatives specifically addressing obesity. After completion of her surgical residency at UT Southwestern, she pursued specialty training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, making her an expert in the comprehensive care of bariatric patients. Her hard work was further recognized when she was selected to travel to France and study advanced endoscopic surgical techniques at IRCAD in Strasbourg.
Dr. Hafford is the bariatric surgery director at the new UT Southwestern Frisco campus. She helps her patients overcome morbid obesity with safe and effective weight loss operations such as gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. She believes that in addition to surgery, the medical aspects and lifestyle factors that contribute to morbid obesity must be addressed to ensure her patients the best chance of long term success. Many patients will experience improvement and resolution of many medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea.
