She has held academic appointments as an instructor of surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Pennsylvania, and was a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She is an associate program director for the general surgery residency, director of the surgical simulation laboratory and faculty for the bariatric fellowship program. She is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She was the recipient of an American College of Surgeons Research Scholarship in 2006 and received the 2008 Individual Award from Massachusetts General Hospital for Clinical Research.
