Dr. Liza Maria Pompa Gonzalez, Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Liza Maria Pompa Gonzalez, MD, PhD, FACS is an accomplished bariatric surgeon and the founder and director of LIMARP International Center of Excellence for Obesity located in Tijuana, Mexico. She began her medical studies at Baja California’s Autonomous University, Tijuana campus where she was awarded the prestigious Merit Award for academic excellence. Dr. Pompa Gonzalez went on to complete her surgical residency at Tijuana’s General Hospital in Mexico where she was the first woman to become Chief of Residents and later appointed Chief of Surgery. She completed an advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery fellowship at Tijuana General Hospital and trained at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota as a visiting resident. She finished her surgical training at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg, France. Dr. Pompa Gonzalez is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Mexican Association of General Surgery, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), and the French Society of Digestive Surgery. Named one of the Leaders in Bariatric Surgery by Newsweek Magazine, Dr. Pompa Gonzalez has been a designated professor of Laparoscopic Surgery Training programs where she performed live exhibition surgery and taught the very latest in surgical techniques. She is the author of the book How Much Does Your Life Weigh, which she dedicates to her patients and all who struggle with obesity. She also founded a non-profit organization called LIMARP FOUNDATION, for patients with no economical health resources.
