Christian Birkedal, M.D.

Christian Birkedal, MD, is board certified in general surgery and is a certified wound specialist. He received his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., and his medical degree from the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. Birkedal completed his residency and internship in surgery at Baptist Health Systems in Birmingham, Ala. As an undergraduate, Dr. Birkedal was a member of MENSA, Phi Beta Kappa and Golden Key. He also achieved Eagle Scout rank in 1985. He was the recipient of the Tinsley-Harrison Scholarship while in medical school, as well as the Gross Anatomy Instructor Award for academic performance, leadership and teaching ability. Dr. Birkedal is a member of the American Medical Association, the Society for Advancement of Wound Care, the American College of Surgeons and the American Association of Wound Care. He has provided several chapters for the e-Medicine Textbook of Surgery and has been involved in numerous research projects. Dr. Birkedal currently serves as a staff member at the Center for Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine and as a general surgeon at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center.
