  1. I did forget to mention that even though I had to wait 30 minutes before and after eating, once I moved on to solid foods, I only had to wait 30 minutes AFTER eating. I could drink up to the point I started eating something. Not sure what the rationale was there - maybe there's more of a risk of nutrients being washed out of your stomach when you're on liquids and/or purees when you drink BEFORE eating, too (which makes sense since those don't stay in your stomach for very long).

    Nope you didn't ruin anything. Your journey will be all ups and downs and it is really best to get used to it. Throw in lots of stalls and you will be worrying like crazy if you don't believe your teams advice. You should be in a calorie deficit. Once you are on real whole foods as against puree your restriction will kick in big time. Then you will be on reduced calories again because you just can not eat much. You could have gained three pounds because of a few reasons. Have you been eating salty foods, Having a really stressful time, Have a full bowel or is it just the time of the month.
  3. My less eloquent take. I am also a foodie. I never stopped cooking for family and friends. I just pureed what I cooked and then had tiny portions of what I cooked and can now have bigger portions but nowhere near what I used to. Food is a big part of socialising. Eating out was super tricky in the early months because nobody outside my immediate family knows about my surgery, so I just avoided it. Once I could eat a starter or at least rearrange the leftover stuff to look like I'd eaten most of it, I was back in the saddle! I said I had eaten already or wasn't really hungry and nobody ever cared. Lots of thin people eat like that - I have regularly split main courses with people I've known for years who always left half their meal anyway. Small plates like tapas are absolutely ideal. And sharing plates - you can have a bite or two of everything and if other people are digging in they'll honestly not notice. And don't bother with the sides - our plans want us to concentrate on the good stuff! Most of us (especially with sleeves) can very quickly eat everything again. Don't worry, you will absolutely still be able to celebrate food whilst losing weight. Welcome to the forum and welcome to your new life.

    I'm 2 weeks post omega loop bypass today (from previous sleeve) and on purees, thank the heavens. Liquids was getting a bit old!! It's been a while since I've done purees. What are your fave recipes to get through this stage?

    Is this normal?

    Hey!! You are a little over 2 weeks post op. Burping and feeling bloated are quite normal. As the internal swelling goes down these will ease (unless you chug water, then you'll feel bloated for sure! LOL). It isn't unusual to feel like things are creeping up your esophagus, right now everything is very swollen in there and that leads to a pressurized feeling. It can feel like water and food take forever to go down, or that they go down a bit and then start trying to crawl back up, before going down again. I had all these issues. I also had this thing where every time I drank something I could feel the fluid displacing air in my digestive tract, causing burping and then this trickling, gurgling feeling AND sound as the fluid tracked down into my stomach. It sounded like liquid going down a drain you just unclogged. It was weird as hell. LOL It lasted for the first month until the swelling went down enough inside to make more space. Fluids for another week are not going to hurt you. When you say fluids do you mean strict liquids only like milk and water? Or are you including shakes, pudding, yogurt, and so on? I was on strict fluids only for 2 weeks, no yogurt or puddings and I wasn't even able to stomach a real protein shake for the first month. I was not able to get any protein down the first two weeks without intense stomach spasms. The surgeon said that was not unusual at all. After the first two weeks we were supposed to introduce thin purees for the third week, and he told me I could have really soft fish and soft eggs. I hated purees. Yogurt sat too heavy. I still couldn't do jello. Sugar free pudding was a no too. I could do protein water, milk, a little bit of soft pureed egg, and weirdly enough, a little soft fish chewed well. At the 4th week we were told to progress to soft solids, but it took me another week before I was able to consistently. I had to be very gradual about my food progression. My team said that was perfectly fine, everyone's pace is a little different, just be sure to keep them posted on your progress as you go and follow their advice, but without forcing yourself to eat things your tummy doesn't feel ready for. You sound like you are right on schedule. ❤️

    January 2024 surgery buddies

    I’m 3 weeks and on puree but am able to have soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. been having a lot of pumpkin soup. making overnight oats- that then goes in the blender with some protein and a banana and some peanut butter :)

    Something feels off

    Congratulations on your surgery and great progress. You are over the worst. The liquid and puree foods go through your new tummy really quickly. Are you remembering the no drink rules? Your tummies nerve endings have been severed and your full signals are missing. I would sneeze when full. So as they say on here just because you can eat it does not mean you should. When your new tummy stitch line has healed and you begin on real foods your restriction will kick in and oh boy will you know about it. Its like a long lost friend coming back but now it has rules of its own. Over eat at your peril, it feels awful for hours. This is what we mean when we say bariatric surgery is not an easy option.
  8. I had my surgery on Jan 18th and i can take a little more water then before but its STILL a pain in the butt because i still have pain (gas?) when im drinking. Im supposed to move on to pureed foods in a few days but how when im not 100 percent with these liquids. Its slow moving and it sucks. It seems like im going to be one of those cases where it takes forever to heal or get on track and it sounds like maybe you will be the same (hopefully not). I go to the doc for my 2 week follow up on the 31st i will let you know what he says about all this.
  9. I am 7 weeks post opt and have most restrictions removed with the exception of bread/ rice / beef/ pork. I’m worried about stretching my stomach. Around how much lean protein are you having per meal along with carb/veg? Anyone get weight loss stalls at this stage? I notice the scale has barely moved the last 10 days.

  11. I had VSG November 30th, and I’m over the liquid diet😩I’ve tried to get creative but really how creative can a girl get! I still have another week until I can add pureed foods but sheesh! I had a calcium citrate caramel chew today and it was everything 🙌🏼😩😭 just the fact I got to actually chew something was the highlight of my day!

  13. That's good to know! I was shocked I lost so much in the pre-op phase. It took me 6 months to lose 15lbs from my highest weight this past summer, and then I lost the same amount in 2 weeks. So I imagine my body is reacting to that as well, like what the heck are you doing?! I just got to start soft proteins a few days ago (my doctor skips purees) and my calorie count is increasing as well. I seem to be able to get around 30g protein from food, and I'm still supposed to have 3 protein shakes, so I'm ending up with 90+ grams of protein and 600-650 calories. Pre-op I was at 600-800 calories per day and 80-100 grams protein, so maybe that's more of a sweet spot. Hopefully this will give me a nudge in the right direction!

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

    I had mu Gastric bypass on the 7th. Mine went pretty well too. I haven't had any issues getting enough fluids. On the blood thinner shots, they will bruise you, it doesn't look pleasant. It something that happens taking thinners. The area where I put the shots looks like I took a couple chuck norris kicks to the mid section. Forgive me if I give to much info. The only problem I have is constipation. I've taken MiraLAX everyday, yet I still had an impaction. I couldn't free it myself and had to go to the ER to get everything to pass. The surgeon told me it could happen after surgery because of pain meds and Anesthesia. Plus I was on a two week pre-op liquid diet and was supposed to be two weeks Post-Op. So you get no fiber to help things along. Since my issue, the Doctor said I could go ahead and eat pureed/soft food. Even starting it early by a week, I've had no issues. Though, I can only intake a cup of food or less. It's very different. Wish you the best of luck.

    just wanted to respond to comments about being on liquids only - depends on the surgeon. Our clinic at the time had us on purees as soon as we got home from the hospital (not sure if they still do, since it's been nine years for me). To the OP - follow your surgeon's plan.
  16. I just had surgery on 1/4/24 and I am struggling. I never used to be obsessed with food and now it's all I think about. I am so sick of the Protein drinks and jello because everything tastes too sweet for me now. It feels/tastes like I am drinking sweetened condensed milk from the can. I am limited with broths I like, so that's an issue. I couldn't take it anymore, so I broke down and has refried beans yesterday (I'm not supposed to start pureed food until Tuesday). I regret having the surgery, and am resentful about not being to eat the foods I want. I have been on the liver shrinking diet 1 week before Christmas, which was awful watching everyone eat all those delicious Christmas treats, while I just watched. I think between that and the liquid diet post-surgery has broken me. I am emotional and miserable. Am I the only person to feel this way?
  17. My dietician explained that there have been studies that show that pure liquids usually exit the stomach in 5 or so minutes. Everyone's transit time is different though. But he advised we stop drinking a few minutes before we start eating, to allow the fluids to drain out before we start adding solids. Once you add solids, those of us with a pyloric valve have stomachs that will close that valve and keep things in until the food reaches the ideal consistency to move on. This is why we shouldn't drink more than a swallow with our meals, because fluids will then take up too much room. For those without a pyloric valve, drinking with or soon after meals will wash the food out of their pouch and into the small intestines quicker because there is no pyloric valve stopping that process. But regardless of the surgery, the "wait 30 minutes before" rule has been disproven for most people. I know for a fact that my stomach works this way because I saw it do this with barium contrast during a GI fluoroscopy pre-surgery. It was really cool! So I always drink up until a few minutes before I'm ready for food. Even with snacks!

    Nausea and low mood

    Hello and welcome in this great forum. Yes I had a ton of nausea and vomiting in the beginning. It took me about 3 months to get the upper hand on it. I still take Lansoprazole 30mgs twice a day. My internal stitch line was very swollen. I had to sleep sitting up for a month because of reflux. I had the remorse in a big way. I paid to feel this way. You have just made a huge change to all you have ever known. Food and eating is often more than just sustenance and once its taken away we wonder what we have done. You sound like you are grieving. Staying in and not showering are classic signs. Its difficult to get therapy in the UK but you might need to seek it out. People on here often have low moods to the lack of sugary foods and drinks or just fast foods after surgery and need to go through a type of withdrawal. Early out you still have the whole stomach amount of acid in a tiny pouch. It does make you nauseous. When you can eat better it does get better. If you find moving through the eating stages difficult, go back to the last one. I couldn't do puree. Puke... DM me on here if you want to chat.

    November 2023 buddies

    I am 2 weeks post op now from gastric bypass.. I am doing ok on the pureed diet but really ready for some food. I am thinking I am going to love the soft food stage when I can add more things.. went back to work yesterday but I am so tired from the long days. This has been a little harder then I thought it would but I am making due.. my husband is starting to notice changes in me and I am noticing clothes are starting to fit weird. it is not often I get to say that me clothes are getting big.. off to see how this week goes..
  20. Good Morning! Here is a update; I'm almost at my one month mark (on the 6th), I've lost a total of 40lbs. 20 Pre Op and 20 post op. I'm currently on Pureed foods, its going good. I eat mostly eggs with cottage cheese, ricotta bake and sweet potato. To help ensure I reach my protein goals, I will have a fairlife protein shake or Vidafuel. If you haven't heard of Vidafuel, its good to have, especially if you're on the go a lot. One 2oz shot is 16grams of protein, my dietician recommended it. There are two flavors Mixed Berry and Orange; orange is by far the better flavor. I'm struggling with my water intake, its been difficult to get 64oz in; I'm only getting about 43oz, so I've been doing hydrating IVs. My doctor prescribed hyoscyamine and that has helped me tremendously; it relaxes muscles in the digestive tract and reduces stomach acid. I have been walking and I think that's also helped with gas pains. Hope everyone is doing good!
  21. I was never given any specific goals to meet at any stage. At 3 weeks after my sleeve I was probably eating 3 tiny 2oz pureed things per day. If I was hungry I had a teaspoon or two of nut butter before bed, or if it was earlier in the day a few spoons of Greek yoghurt.

    Hi Crystal. So sorry to hear about the stenosis you’re having. I hope they can resolve that for you soon. I can’t imagine going back to liquid and puree again. I told myself never again after my surgery. That was horrible. yeah seems like I’m eating a lot more than anyone else I’ve talked to as well. It’s very puzzling. I consider myself extremely lucky however. I’ve had no complications at all. No nausea at all. Not even when in hospital day of surgery. No matter what I eat, no problems. No dumping syndrome. I really hope you get your situation sorted out and back to real food soon. Best of luck to you.

    organic vs non organic

    So people are trying to find organic foods and healthy foods in the united states but it is hard to find ethnic foods that are actually organic, now anything can be labeled as organic even if it has non organic ingredients so would it still be organic ?
  24. It doesn't sound like it. I know that the amount sounds like a lot compared to the can-only-eat-three-spoons-of-pureed-food-and-even-less-when-solid crowd but the amounts is not what strikes me odd. If the foods you're listing are fairly typical for a day of eating you simply might be lagging nutrients. No fruits at all, only a little bit of vegetables. I'm not surprised. The sodium content of the foods you listed seems to be fairly high. Quick weight loss or weight gain usually almost includes some water retention. My weight can swing up to almost 1 kg within one day because of how much water I hold. You say you want to start tracking. Are you a person who likes to track food, a person who abhors it (raises both hands simultaneously here) or a person who is not a fan but in the end doesn't mind it? Tracking foods/calories/macros can help people - however, it could be that you can benefit from a different food selection without even having to write everything down you eat. How far out of surgery are you? Are the stats you're listing in your profile still correct?

    3 week stall - Just a rant from a newbie

    I am currently on the pureed stage and it has been a struggle... I am living on yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, soups, protein lemonade, protein pudding and protein shakes. it has been hard but I am understanding the process. I did try to cheat the process and have something I thought I could handle and well.. that did not end well... There is light at the end of the tunnel, a more food will become available to you.. I am finding the first 2 months are the hardest but you will soon find your groove and foods.. Also 13lbs is amazing.. your body has gone through to much in such a short amount of time.. give yourself grace and get excited about every little thing your body does.. Also I am sure that you are losing inches along with pounds.
