  1. So I'm still on the liquid stage , the first few days I was eating just fine , then the last few days everything I'm eating just tastes horrible, I've been eating yoghurt, protein shakes, homemade soup ,low sugar custard, I'm sick of food! I'm hoping pureed stage will be better ! 4 days to go and I can try puree
  2. Hello all, I'm currently on my final week of my liquid diet and I was wondering if anyone had good pureed food recipes? Because all I can think of is mashed potatoes and apple sauce; and does anyone know if smoothies or overnight oats count? Would greatly appreciate any effort to giving me some recipes as I'm currently at a loss for what I can do.
  3. I thought I read wrong. Starting to think it’s true. We really can’t reheat food? 🥹 I’m the left over queen. I tried left over food 3 times and each time it turned into my worst enemy 😩. Why me lord… it’s not in my budget to cook every single day. Or order food every single day. Help friends help me please!

    Food Boredom

I am at a point where nothing interests me when it comes time to eat so I just don't... I still will make my protein coffee to try and get something in. But has anyone else went through a funk like this?
  5. Hi! Just wondering if a small amount of sugar-free peanut butter cups, if sufficiently mashed/pureed, would be ok in the puree stage. I know I can ask my bariatric dietitian, but I'm just wondering if anyone here has some insight. Pre-op, I have enjoyed both Quest brand and Reece's sugar-free. Reece's has less fat (8g per regular serving) than Quest (13g). I wouldn't have a full serving, at least not all at once. I just want to have something a little indulgent on Halloween, but I don't want to get sick.
  6. Hi everyone, so i had gastric sleeve on 23/09/2023. my current routine is usually protein shake in the morning, breakfast/lunch around 12-1 PM, then i go to the gym for my workout and have my BCAA during/post workout, and then my dinner when i get home. However, i got told by many people that i should actually keep my protein shake for later on and not in the morning and instead just have breakfast. What do you guys usually do with arrangements of meals and protein shake and so on?
  7. I'm 4 weeks out from surgery and just had my first non liquid, non pureed food. Ranier cherries. Only 5, but they may have been the most delicious thing ever. Which makes me wonder, everyone. What was/will be your first "real" food?
  8. Hey guys! I'm currently nearing the end of my first week of the pureed stage and I was wondering how many calories I'm supposed to be consuming? My doctor never really talked about it. Any suggestions from your surgeons? Thanks!

    Pureed foods. Yuck!!

Thanks for the input! I dry heave just thinking about pureeing solid foods. I'll make note to ask the NUT if I can skip the pureed stage.
  10. I had a bypass on 11-6. I eat solid foods. It does not hurt. I can eat 2 whole cucumbers. I can eat a 4oz piece of tuna. Am I just doomed? I should hurt right? probably eat 500-600 calories a day. only eating fish, chicken, and cucumbers. I crave them ALLDAY. so I'm not concerned that I'm not eating health. But why can I eat so much. Oh, I can eat 2 large scrambled eggs.
  11. Hey all! I know we all may have different surgeon guidelines and of course a nutritionist is the expert. Having said that- I’m looking for comparison of your numbers vs mine on your daily intake at 4 months out. I’ve been stalled nearly 3 weeks. Just curious to see what others tracking looks like at this time period post operatively. Thanks!!
  12. Hello - I had my my VSG about 20 days ago. I was cleared for the soft food phase but it takes me 2 hours to finish ONE egg and the food makes me feel like something is stuck in my throat. I decided to stay on purées because of it. Is that normal? How long does it last? Second question…. Where they heck is our stomach? Any discomfort I feel is only on my left side. When I feel the food “drop” it’s always there. I also feel a tightness and poking sensation on that side. Sometimes it feels like baby flutters too… Is that normal? Any advice would help. Thanks!!
  13. Hi Support Team- I moved to the pureed stage last Thursday after having done fine with liquids (meeting protein and water goals). In addition to having no hunger or appetite (which I understand is normal), I really don't like the texture of pureed foods. So, I have been eating only one pureed "meal" a day - scrambled egg, tuna salad and tonight ricotta bake. The rest of my protein I am getting from fluids like before. How did you all manage eating enough food to get most of your protein in during this phase AND meeting fluid goals. Anybody semi skip the pureed phase - eating only one or two "meals" per day and the rest liquid? Thank you in advance!

    Pureed foods. Yuck!!

Yogurt, cottage cheese and cream soups (as others have suggested) are all good at the pureed food stage, too!
  15. I agree with Nickelchip. Programs vary, but that sounds like a misunderstanding. Most people are on solid foods at about a month out (after doing a week or two of liquids, then purees, then maybe soft foods). You're two weeks out - most people at that point are on purees or soft foods - and they start introducing solid foods about a month out, give or take... or like she said, maybe you have some unique medical circumstances (?)

    April Operation Buddies

Congrats!! week 1 is behind you now Do you have another week of liquids or are you moving on to pureed foods?
  17. Hello Everyone! I’m getting ready to start soft foods and I’m worried about getting enough protein in. 2 protein shakes a day is the only reason I even get close but it’s hard to imagine being able to eat enough protein with such small portions. How does everyone manage?
  18. I've just had my 1st meeting with my nutritionist, and she said to track mt food intake. Does anyone out there have a good way to do this online, or is a spiral notebook the way to do it?
  19. I'm in Florida, USA and will be going to a Renaissance Fest in December. The theme for that weekend is "Celtic Christmas." I'm in the soft foods stage, so I can't eat what they traditionally sell at these kinds of fairs: giant turkey legs, meat pies, pub food, and general fatty/sugary things. Thankfully, their website says that those with "medical dietary needs" can bring outside food. So I'm wondering what kind of traditional UK or Irish food I could make and bring with me? They wouldn't need to be "period appropriate" (I think historical accuracy isn't always a big concern with these fairs) but I would like to get into the feel of it! By that point I'll have been cleared to have ground beef, soft dark meat chicken or turkey, fruits, and small amounts of butter or oil, in addition to the usual soft stuff, including vegetables. I was thinking colcannon made with cauliflower instead of potatoes? Something with meat would be nice too! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  20. I am a week and a half out from surgery, and I had my first official full-fledged cheat today. I ate a slice and a half of avacado. I'm not supposed to even be trying vegetables for about another two weeks, but it just looked so good. So, my lovely ladies and handsome gents, tell me about the first time you fell off the horse? What did you eat? How far out were you? Was it hard to get back on track? Story sharing time.

    Pureed foods. Yuck!!

i also was not a fan of pureed stage to the point that i skipped it altogether. on the first day of pureed stage i blitzed some beef in my food processor, looked at it, took a whiff, then dry heaved as i dumped it all in the trash. decided i would just extend my full liquids food stage for an extra week and then go to straight to soft foods once done. worked for me (and also for my NUT who i told what i what i decided to do...she was fine with it). though pureed stage was around 1 month post of for me, and i was barely eating much anyway (like 300-400 cals a day i think), so it probably made no difference for me? *shrug*.
  22. I had the SADI-S 3 days ago and I can already drink 12 ounces over a 5 minute period. Seems like a lot. I'm hoping I can't EAT 12 ounces! Does anyone know how that works?

    Pureed foods. Yuck!!

My program skipped pureed foods and went directly to soft proteins with the instructions to chew thoroughly. But your best bet for purees is blended soups. You can make a very flavorful soup and puree it, and it will still be tasty (as opposed to pureeing meat, which is gross). Bean soups and butternut squash bisque work well. You might also try a ricotta bake in that stage, which can be made by mixing a cup of ricotta and an egg, spreading this in a greased baking pan, and topping with a non-chunky marinara and some mozzarella and parmesan, and then baking at 350F until the cheese is nice and brown, maybe 30-45 minutes. As for protein drinks, you should plan to be supplementing with those for quite some time, at least several weeks. Some people can get what they need from food really early, but others need at least one protein shake a day for several months. You also might want some plain, unflavored protein powder to add to things like soup or smoothies to increase protein.
  24. SO happy for you!! Sounds like you've been doing all the necessary things needed for your health! I'm, however, struggling with the pureed diet. Do you have any recommendations for pureed foods? I'm struggling tremendously with the textures...and craving to just CHEW. lol. I'm going to look into Vidafuel today im so glad i came across your reply!

Hard to eat 6 days out

I was on clear liquids 3 days, then full liquids for the first 2 weeks post op! While I craved substantial food at 6 days, my stomach wasn’t anywhere near ready for pureed food. Started pureed on day 15 post op and will be on it until 4 weeks post op. Next stage is soft food (weeks 4-6). At 6 weeks post op, I can slowly transition to solids
