Hi! I also had the Slimband procedure done. Paid $13K and 13 years later, haven’t lost any weight. I gained pain, IBS issues, severe gas pain in my abdominal and shoulder and vomit continuously. I am definitely interested in a class action lawsuit if there will be one. Thank you.

July 2013 I thought I had the answer and after having many conversations with an employee of Slimband and stating she had the procedure done was honest enough to move me on to another employee because I was asking and trusting her personal opinion and experience. I believed she had a conscience and realized with my hesitation and state of mind, which was not in logical, healthy manner, she gave over my file to someone else who more and less bullied me into agreeing with the procedure. I have regretted this decision from the moment I had the procedure done. Even before the operation started my blood pressure was so high that they delayed it for a little time so that it could come down, but it never did. I quickly had a chat with the doctor who I felt was not coherent, spaced out and told me that I had to just watch my diet. This is not what I was told during my orientation. I realized moments before going into the surgery that I had been duped! Ashamed I never told my husband how I felt when I was in the other room having this conversation. So, because they are booked with surgeries I was rushed in, high pressure still not down, put under and woke up groggy and sent out the door. During the operation my bladder let go and therefore I had to leave the resident in a wet dress. I have experienced nothing but pain, cannot eat properly because I am throwing up so often, sometimes cannot eat for two days because food is stuck. I have not lost any weight with this procedure. They only thing I lost was 16 000.00 dollars, time from work because I am sick, avoiding events because I know that I cannot enjoy the experience of going out with family and friends in case I have to make many trips to the restroom to vomit. Embarrassment and pride and disappointment that I allowed someone take advantage of my desperation to lose weight forever or at least that is what I was told would happen. Now I just want my band removed and my money back! Shame on the doctors and Slimband as I never received any support after I left Toronto to come home east. This was a costly decision that I put a lot of consideration in and still was misled, deceived, and bullied. I wish a class action can be done to compensate me. -
In 2010 I had a lap band surgery at the Slimband clinic in Toronto. Dr. Patrick Yau was my surgeon. I never felt that the band worked, but because of the cost I was determined not to fail. I joined MyfitnessPal and faithfully logged in for over 500 days. I swam daily for one hour during the winter months. Walked, and rode 100 miles per week on my bike. I lost weight, nearly 100 lbs. Three years ago I experienced pain in my abdomen on the lower left side. I had every test possible and nothing was found. This past March 2022, I was in unbearable pain and an ambulance was called. The lap band had perforated my bowel. My life was in jeopardy and after some harrowing days I was out of the woods. I spent a month in the hospital and had food the last three days. It took five months to recover. I was told that when I recovered I would need the band removed because it was precariously positioned against another part of the bowel. Nov. 8 of this year I went to Humber River Hospital and had it and another portion of bowel removed. My question is ; is there a class action suit against Slimband and/or Dr. P. Yau? Thank you.

Michael Scott Smith of Slimband's Previous COO. and a few EX-employees also sued him and won. He currently still owns and operates https://creditmedical.com/ a company that finances medical procedures. While the Image on the web site still shows 64 Prince Arthur Ave. and address shows 1200 Bay St., Toronto, ON M2R 2A5, that is actually not where it is located. The actual location is kept a secret. It will be extremely difficult to file a claim against Michael Scott Smith now. It's also important to note, he has previously been convicted more than once for fraud. and has the resources to play " Catch me if you can" . -

I too had the Slimband and almost died. i was convinced by a sales consultant Belina Patini and some sweet talking English guy. Belina claimed to have had the Slimband as well. Which i found hard to believe, because at the time, i looked better than she did. I understand the Owner of Slimband, Michael Scott Smith. Closed shop and fled to California, following multiple threats from clients and business partners. and even the government. -

Does anybody know if a class action law suit was ever filed against Slimband or the Doctor. I had my surgery done in November 2013 lost some weight by straving myself and waiting for my fills to finally hit my " Sweet Spot " that never happened. I quit straving myself and the weight I lost came back, band is useless, I never felt full. I just found this site out of looking in despair and many years of depression. So fed up of this useless thing inside of me and the problems it has created. If anybody knows anything any input would be appreciate. Thanks -

Iam definitely interested in a lawsuit against Slimband. I have lost thousands of dollars in pay due to having to take unpaid sick leave (in fact, I am lucky to even still be employed). Also, I'm told that almost everyone will need to eventually have to have it removed (mine hasn't been yet). I had Slimband Oct 3, 2013. I have not lost any weight and have to be very careful when I eat or it comes right back up. I would love to get in on a class action.

Hi all just contacted my nurse prac. for a referral to a surgeon for removal. I've put it off long enough, I think part of it was shaming myself for falling for the "slimband" marketing scheme. I was implanted 2015 lost maybe 50 pounds and have gained it all back . years of stomach pain etc all the same stories as everyone else in this thread. I really think that this creates metabolic syndrome and makes it impossible to lose after a while. I see a lot about lawsuits But slimband was manufactured by cousin biotech in France not allergen unless it's owned by allergan? I have my wallet card with lot numbers still that slimband and gave me. My email is pcaravaggio68@gmail.com if anyone would like to message. I would be more then happy to help with a class action and get info from others gathered for this if needed. We need to fight this and bring it to attention at least get back part of our money.

I wouldnt go that route because its expensive and u might not get anything out of them. There is a lawfirm in b.c that is handling a class action for all lapbands. Slimband declared bankruptcy so they are going after the makers of lapband. The info should be on this forum maybe page 8 or 9 so check that out and enter ur name. -

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could offer me some assistance. I had an emergency slimband removal last year as it eroded through my stomach, encased itself in scar tissue, and nearly killed me. Even with it removed, I'm still dealing with ongoing health issues, though we have checked my entire GI and it is seemingly fine so no one knows why I'm still losing weight, have no appetite, struggling to eat and experiencing pain while eating and digesting. I'm looking for lawyers - I've contacted 3 and only one is willing to take it for a $10000 retainer. I'm back in college (this ordeal forced me to drop out last year), so that's not a great option. Hi, I travelled to Toronto for my surgeries. Had my first surgery Aug 2016 at the age of 46 with Dr. C???? on staff at the Toronto Slimband clinic. Did not have much success during that first year and followed the plan to the letter. Had to return a year later to have the procedure corrected because the port had been installed directly over a rib. Every time I would lay down or bend over at a certain angle it would rub against the rib bone (very painful). Dr. Yul did the corrective surgery himself. Just being brought into the operating room, he spoke to me and said to me very condescendingly that my weight problem was a psychological problem and that was why I wasn't achieving the promised success with my band. I was so shocked and hurt. They took my money, put this thing in me then tell me it isn't even what I needed. He was really heartless. I've since been diagnosed with a food addiction and I've been under the care of a wonderful and caring Dr. in the Ottawa area as well as a great therapist. I'm doing the hard work. I've since lost a fair amount of weight (part of my treatment is to no longer weigh myself so I don't use numbers just the fit of my clothes) and for the past three years I've had peace in my mind that I had not know since I was a young girl of 12 or 13. I just wish the Slimband Clinic had been up front with me and told me that the band wasn't for me and saved me the cost and pain multiple surgeries instead of lining their pockets with no regards to my wellbeing. The silver lining is that I found my wonderful Dr. in Ottawa when I was searching for a physician who would help me with my band. (fills, etc.)

if you guys do end up finding someone to sue slimband, please let me know. I also got a band in 2011 and i havent lost any weight. it has also made my life miserable and ihavent had a refill as once they filled it soo much that i had to go to emergency. i just recently found out they closed shop. i talked to my doctor about having the band removed but was told unless it caused me some life threatening situation they cannot remove it. so i am stuck to wait until i am close to dying from the band before having it removed these 2 years rules and ohip rules does not take into consideration human rights/humanity -

GOOOD NEWS!!! I directly contact to Jacquelin Palef from Lerners Lawyer firm in Toronto who interested to do Lawsuit class action against Slimband/ Allegran Inc. She is expertise defective medical devices and she had worked many class action. I spoke to her the phone personally and she mentioned she will take up to the board first to confirmed and then we go ahead from there. I would need hear back her from next following two week. Let keep our finger crossed. -

Hello everyone, I got my Slimband back in October 2011... I have had complications the whole time... I paid over $27,000 for this procedure hoping it would be the beginning of a new life... well long story short it did NOTHING! I would like to be part of this if it becomes a lawsuit, I still have all my papers.. I am going for a removal of the band July 9, 2020... I am VERY interested is pursuing a lawsuit against Slimband. Both my daughter and I have had nothing but issues with our bands. They are not available for any help. I now have a hernia that make it very difficult to eat correctly. -
My daughter and I both have bands by Slimband and would like to join in your lawsuit. We both have issues eating regular foods. I can only tolerate soft foods. Because of the vomiting, I have now a hernia which makes it even more difficult to eat. I have gained more weight then when I started 2012/2014 I would love to hear back from you regarding this matter..... THANK YOU!!!!

I will try my best to be on top finding a lawyer for lawsuit action. I will speak my brother who also lawyer in GTA to find out more research for me. However I will get back to you guys as soon i recover faster with my recovery. Raine88 - First, I asked my family doctor to referral me to Dr Hong and then less a week he immediately call me for appointment (due covid 19 situation) later, he schedule me for endoscopy appointment following week and he took my case immediately 5 days later my surgery (last Monday). It's was really fast and quick case he took over. I am glad i wasn't on waitlist for surgery. If i was you, go to him because Hamilton hospital is a lot faster to take patients since it has less population then Toronto. I come from Mississauga to Hamilton and it was all worth to get out asap. I had Slimband for 9 years so i couldn't hold for another year or so. Melissa- How did you cope with your recovery after surgery? I am much in pain after surgery i couldn't lay down and sit properly because it feel heavy on left side. Any tips? But i feel so good eating oatmeal without puking after long time... just healing process hurt. -

Heyyy guys! My surgery went so well. The band is out!! I am now back home recovery and let hope it heal faster. The nurse told me to be top finding class action for slimband. Apparently lot slimband patient had came to Dr. Deniss Hong for removal. He really such a nice gentleman. However, Please let me know how can i help for to find a lawyer in GTA. Hello all: Update about my Endoscopy procedure last two day ago: Melissa was right! My procedure was absolute went well and really quick. No pain during this procedure. However Dr. Hong did noticed i had inflammatory and infection cause the slimband. The Doctor did saw me puke after i took slip of water after the procedure. Best news is the surgical removal is next Monday! ( SO QUICK I KNOW!)
