what does NSV mean?? I am new to the forum and unsure of some of the terms
-
I'd like to be able to change my stats to read starting pant size to current pant size instead of starting/current weight. My job is all about metrics so I understand the need to collect and analyze numbers but we really need to not obsess. There isn't a perfect weight nor is there a perfect size. This is about health and the quality of life...including how we look and how others see us. I keep telling myself I won't look at these threads but I do because I want to try to do what others are doing by saying to stop focusing on the scale. You are only three weeks out scarlet. How long have you been overweight? Years, right? It won't come off overnight. And even small losses are still losses. I never lost more than three pounds in a single week and yet I still managed to lose over 150 lbs. Relax...and enjoy the NSVs and whatever positive experiences you have while you are going through this change. Good luck.

Scared/second thoughts
Healthy_life2 replied to shanshan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being scared and nervous can make you question your decision. Normal pre surgery jitters. I’m sure your surgeon gave you the statistics and risk/complication facts. Your team is going to take good care of you and manage your pain with medication. The pain is temporary, your results will be amazing. As for all the horror stories, I think its human nature to gravitate toward the negative posts. It will fuel your pre surgery aniety. Try to balance things out by reading the positives. Surgery before and after’s https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/297668-i-want-to-see-before-after-pics-contd/ Success stories https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1298-weight-loss-surgery-success-stories/ NSV's https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=NSV I think many of usthat have bounced back from surgery quickly and had no complications don’t get represented. People that are maintaining no longer need support leave the site. Most people posting are in weight loss mode, a few with complications and people that have gained weight. -

NSV alert ---> I fit into an XL!!!! I knew I needed a new coat this year, and I want something WARM. So I was eyeing an LL Bean down coat. They are much more expensive in Women's sizes, so I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, I could squeeze into an XL. I was reluctant to spend $100 to try it though, so I got this one off of Ebay before making the investment.... L.L Bean Crimson Insulated Quilted Barn Jacket coat XL - eBay (item 300257064951 end time Sep-15-08 10:11:15 PDT) And, it fits!!! A little tight in the belly, but not too bad. By cold weather it should do just fine. I'm so excited. I haven't been in Misses sizes since college when I lost a lot of weight for a few months. Woohoo! I know I'm nowhere near XL in regular clothing. But I'm still excited. It's not an ugly, freezing cold Woman Within coat!

December 2010 Sleevers!
CarrieJenn replied to BZButterfly79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All - Sleeved on Dec, 21st. Definitely stalled week 3 after 25lb weight loss. Upped my cals and my Water - stall broke...YAY! struggling with psychological stuff more than physical - I live in NYC, the food capital of the world, so it's a challenge to be "out and about" and not partake in MANY things!! It's not that I'm hungry or even need/want to eat - it's just that I know I shouldn't or can't. typical day menu.. Carnation No Sugar Added chocolate shake 1/2 c Fage no fat greek yogurt with 1 splenda & 1/4 pureed no sugar added fruit cup cheese wedge (laughing cow or mini babybel - Low Fat) another shake or 1/2 c Soup ice pop or teaspoon Peanut Butter drink Special K protein/fiber pink lemonade powder in water (2 per day) 30 cals each(5 mg protein/5 mg fiber) having a difficult time with pure Proteins (like salmon, chicken, turkey) deli meat has been okay but must eat very slowly wishing everyone luck... had my first NSV today - someone whom I haven't seen in months called me Skinny! ,Believe me, I have a LONG WAY to go but she noticed which was AWESOME!! I was given a gift card to Dress Barn for my birthday. I went in thinking I'd grab a pair of slacks and a blouse for work. My currant pants were on the loose side so I grabbed the next size down. To my disbelief they were also too big. I grabbed the next size down and Walla they fit perfectly. Are you ready for this? They are a size 12 a freaking size 12!!!!! I cried right there in the dressing room.

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks....Slipped (or lived?)a bit after Valentines Day, but still have had a few NSV to clelebrate! A parent of some children at the school where I work stopped me & said, there's something differnt about you...I replied, I cut my hair short, it looks more red now. She said NO, it's something else, as she motioned up & down her body & said you have lost some weight girl! :thumbup:It was nice to have someone who didn't know about my surgery say that! A p/t staff also approached me (she knows about my surgery) & said I think you are losing weigth everyday that I see you! I have a fleece jacket with school logo that has ALWAYS ben tight & I rarely wore it. Wiht the weather here being in the 20 below range the last week, I reluctantly grabbed it & WOW It fit nice, zipped it up & room to move! I also bought a new winter coat in XL, my last was a men's 2X. I can also wear my NEW belt (helps to keep the old pants up ) on the THIRD hole! Found 4 old pants, one still with tags that I could never fit into & they fit & are even a bit loose in the legs! Even had to dig out an old & smaller bathing suit for my water aerobics class! WOW..If I can do this & be successful....so can everyone else! MNILENE Surgery date 12/20/07 Dr. Redd Theif River Falls MN url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wGCmAbf/]

Gotta Luv Those NSVs!!
AWIP replied to sweetbean70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NSV = Non scale Victory That is awesome, congratulations!!! Just think, soon you will need to start taking links OUT of that watch. I just realized tonight that I am almost back in the cocktail dress I bought for my sister's wedding nearly 8 years ago. Too cool for words. I've been into and there inflated out of that dress a few times. Its nice to know that I will be back into it soon and that it will also soon be too big for me FOREVER!!! :frown: -
Oh sh*t! I think I just noticed an NSV! Did I?

that certainly qualifies as an excellent NSV! -
Hey Y'All... I have a minute or two today - thank goodness! Becky - Great job getting to the gym! It does feel great when we go. I don't know why we fight it so hard sometimes... Eileenie - I am surprised none of those photos shows the big ol' granny panties on their heads! Glad you had fun! Anne - sounds like your DH travels a lot. It's cool that you can pack up the kids and hang with your Sis. Fill us in on all the latest when you get a chance. Hugs! Kat - Stress is the worst for trying to maintain proper eating. At least if you are depressed you can just sleep - but stress! Yikes! It's like your hand moves with no msg from the brain... right into the cheetos - or the refried Beans, or whatever. I am still thinking positive thoughts for you and your DH. Try not too worry too much about what you are eating right now. HUGS! Patty - at least your insurance was willing to talk to you! Mine wouldn't even acknowledge my existence until 30 days after the request... Try to take a deep breath and count to ten or something. It will come. Hugs! Mary - have fun with the garden - and yes, Hoeing counts as exercise! Hugs! I am thinking good thoughts for a healthy band. Maybe you just have stress tightness - and aggravation from PB's... Hugs for the boys, too. Darcy - my thighs still hurt - but it's back to the battle with the Evil Eliptical tonight... I will not consider it a victory until I can go for 45 minutes without the thing going into "pause" mode because I am going too slow! It doesn't matter which gym you join, so long as you go. Hugs! Cindy - So glad you have the headache thing under control! You school must use that "bag-o-lettuce" with all the chemicals on it, huh? ick. Congrats on the 5 lbs! The scale is not cooperating with me right now - but I am not paying it any mind. I know that thigh muscle must weigh more than thigh fat... So long as it doesn't become a trend, I am not going to worry. Sorry you miss your Baby. Someday, you MAY look forward to those quiet moments, you know... And - since you no longer have that Headache excuse, maybe you could make your DH's night! lol! Hugs! Donna - what, is it something in the air? Just say "NO" to PB's people! :] I have come close a couple of times - the food moves REALLY slowly... it's just a little reminder from my band to slow down and chew... The latest for me is that I had a little NSV last night. I went to Walmart for some "stuff" and found clothes that I had to have - and they FIT. I got this long beach cover-up skirt - and some really cool hippy-girl shirts to wear with it. Now, I have been able to wear a few specific items from Walmart - but not SHIRTS. I was so jazzed! And I have had several compliments today on my fab new shirt! I will try and remember to have DH take a photo tonight when I get home. That's all the news that's fit to print... Pat? Where are you, Pat? I am starting to worry now... We miss you. Please stop by and let us know how you are. Hugs!! Well I have to run. I have lingered longer than I should already. Hugs all round!

oh ceradad - that makes much more sense. i had an appt as well w/my PA this am, and well i need to eat more...so i had .2ccs taken out. i ate more yesterday than i had in a while, and todays workout went well w/out me feeling like a SLUG. today - 1 1/2hr trainer sesssion: 40 min run/walk (5min run/1min walk - so on) plus ladder drills & sprints afterwards back/shoulder weight training - apparently i have bad posture; so "we're fixing that"....:smile2: ab routine PS - ceradad - great year, really!!! & for me ...i dig the NSV's just as much as scale victories...congrats!

Kristen's Journey From Pre-Op and Beyond
KristenVSG2014 replied to KristenVSG2014's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I thought I'd pop in here and give a little NSV update. So I'm 2 1/2 months out and I've been struggling with really seeing/feeling my progress. While my pants are hanging off of me, I still feel huge. Well I went to my parent's house for dinner last night. I got down to my bra and panties to show my mom my deflated body and my squishy legs. Of course I was critiquing but she was so impressed with my progress. When I had my clothes back on I was walking to another room and I heard her tell my husband, "Look at her from behind. She looks like a different person!" That made me so happy. Today I went shopping for a new bathing suit and some shorts and pants. I dread shopping. I've left so many times crying and depressed. Most times in the dressing room things wouldn't even go past my thighs or butt and I'd get them halfway up and give up. I'd try on 10-30 items and leave with none or one. It was bizarre shopping in the non-plus size section. I kept gravitating towards the 2X and 18/20 clothes. I grabbed three pairs of pants, a pair of shorts, two shirts and six bathing suits. For the first time in my life every single item fit. And the pants and shorts were all size 14!! I got tears in my eyes because every bathing suit fit and I simply picked the one I liked the most, not just because it fit. Normally I settled for whatever fit and would feel fortunate I found one item. Now I can actually find clothes I think are cute! My bathing suit doesn't have a skirt or shorts. It's a NORMAL bathing suit. I haven't worn one of those since I was....I don't remember. A child? Of course I'm not close to done with losing weight. I still have 50 pounds to go but these pants should last a month or two before they become huge. Here's a pic of me in my shorts! Size 14. ???? -

Hey KF, lap it up! Bet you are really watching the midday rugby. I am with Heather, cant wait to cross the legs and have my ankles touch. Congrats to you. I think NSVs are better than scales. -
Crystal, What a FANTASTIC NSV!!! Congratulation! Why don't you post a picture in your skinny little @ss in those new threads? LOL Lucky Girl!

Parvathi, For an explanation of all the freaking abbreviations they use on this site, check out the thread at: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showpost.php?p=86346&postcount=1 It took me over a week to find this and prior to that my imagination ran away with itself trying to figure out what NSV was. DH was another one that I thought stood for D*** Head (which my wife occasionally refers to me with). And for the life of me I thought this Aunt Flo everybody was talking about was some pain-in-the-ass lady who lurked on this web site and then went visiting Lap-Banders uninvited and hung out there for a few days before moving on to somebody else. I vowed to not give out my address on this site for fear she'd be knocking on my door next!!
