Slow, slow, and slower! Pounds are wanting to stay!
Buttercupbrown replied to kikicoates78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah...had sleeve 11/18/14 and I'm loosing slow, but I STOP weighing and I know I'm loosing a lot of inches. I work out 5 dys a week for 1 HR. So I know I'm coming down by my clothes. -
Not weird at all. I have loose skin...no plastics done yet. Not sure if I want to go down that road. But loose skin or no...I'm a small lady now. I wear mostly size 6 pants and small/petite tops. That's not average and I know it. I just haven't wrapped my head around it yet. I'm getting there and changing my body type is a step in the right direction. Congrats on deleting your profile. Here's hoping he's a keeper.

Hi all, I'm new here and would really appreciate advice! I had the Lap-Band back in 2003. I started out at 515lbs and my surgeon set a goal weight of 350 (expected weight loss for Lap-Band tends to be lower, but the surgery was the right choice for me because I was only 21 when I had it). Anyway, I got down to 295, which I maintained for about 10 years. Most recently I started losing again through food planning and exercise and am now at 279. Lately I am really frustrated by all the sagging skin. It isn't causing infections or major mobility issues (thankfully), but I would really like to experience how my body moves (and looks) with less of the excess. I know some guidelines say a WLS should consider PS after they've lost 40% of their body weight or 100lbs. I've lost 46% of my full body weight, and 236lbs. The issue is that, because my original goal was so high, I have no idea what my target weight would be to make me a candidate for PS. I'm mostly interested in a breast lift w small implant, removal of excess arm skin (which is a lot!). I'd also like a LBL or TT down the line, but there's still a good amount of belly fat, so I don't know if that would be an option for me. I should say that the most beautiful part of this lap band journey for me has been letting go of the idea of ever being thin. I'm 6 feet tall and have a large skeletal frame, and I actually really like my body shape-- I'm just not a huge fan of all the sagging skin. For that reason, I don't really want to have to reach what the CDC recommends as a "healthy" weight for me (which is 136-184lbs) in order to get rid of the extra skin. I don't know that my body will ever reach that range, and I don't really feel like I need it to. I just want to be able to enjoy my body to the fullest now. Has anyone with a very high starting weight had PS while in the 250lb weight range? And do you know of good surgeons in the NY, Philadelphia, or DC areas who are good with high BMI patients? Any insights welcome! Many Thanks! Hope you're all having a great weekend! J'amile

Learned last week that I was denied for skin removal surgery. Pretty bummed, what with warm weather coming and the thighs sagging. Apparently there's no way to appeal since BCBS has changed the criteria to qualify. Anyone else go through this, and what did you do? I can't afford to self pay, unfortunately.

3 WEEKS OUT AND ALREADY AT A STALL!?!
anaarnaiz replied to Sapp28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That happen to me when I was 3 weeks as well, but calm down is normal. It took me 3 weeks on the same weight, actually no, I gained 3 pounds, and then I lost 5 pounds and next week another two... You just need to relax, relax and relax... Stress can cause that, your body is new now, everything is new and is in shock so you need to give him time to realized this is the way is going to perform now. What help me to brake that stall was: I increase my protein doses, I stop eating carbs after 3 pm, start drinking a green juice every morning and night (3oz kale, cucumber, green apple, pear and lemon) it also help me to go very regular to the bathroom every 3 days and even that you may not loose weight you are loosing measurements.... So take it easy sister lol you will be ok!!!! Remember is a surgery is not magic... Keep doing your diet, drink a lot of water ( put lemon on it it helps) and walk walk walk.... I'm today on my seven week and lost a total of 38 pounds so far, hope this help you a little bit xoxo -
LoLs, no wonder I was loosing hair! I guess I will have to add B12 ! Thank god the hairloss of mine has stopped. Its getting mighty thin up there!

I think losing 39 pounds in that time period is fantastic progress. Focus on what you've accomplished, and take pride in it instead of diminishing it by comparing yourself to others. We're all at different ages, and have different starting BMIs, frame sizes, metabolisms, and activity levels, and we have unique goals. Some people have lost more weight in eight weeks than I have in my eight months since surgery, but this isn't like some race where everyone starts off at the same place, runs the same course, and there's a prize for being the fastest. You are the only one leading your life, and the only person you should compare yourself to is who you were in the past. I know that I'm much happier, healthier and more confident than I was this time last year. For me, losing weight at a slower pace has actually had benefits. I haven't lost much hair, and my skin has become firmer as I've toned, and isn't loose at all. My eating habits are sustainable for me long-term instead of being so restrictive I feel deprived. I feel confident this weight loss is for good instead of weight that will yoyo right back onto me. Hopefully you'll have similar benefits. I've also stalled for lonnnng stretches of time. Upping my calories actually helped me to break it. If you're not already tracking your meals and Snacks on something like MyFitnessPal, then start recording them. Try experimenting with variating your calories and your carb intake, and see if that makes a differences. If you're not very active, try adding in more activity. You don't have to join a gym. One of my best investments was a good bike that I now use to get to and from work, and to run errands. Instead of buying our groceries for the whole week, I bike up to the farmer's market or the grocery store and get a day or two's worth. It was an easy, enjoyable change that has helped. I also enjoy classes I follow along to on Daily Burn. Best wishes to you.

Needing encouragment / advice
hinportland replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really good advice to look at the Celexa. I've had 3 different anti-depressants cause problems. 1 made me feel itchy all over, like my skin was literally crawling, another made me cry all day for no reason, and the third gave me muscular tremors and dizziness, similar to what you're experiencing. I didn't go to the ER, I just stopped the meds (with my Dr's blessing) and the symptoms went away. Might want to find alternative solutions to treat your depression if you're sensitive to anti-depressants like I am. I find exercising every day (just 30 minutes of walking) really helps. Vit B is supposed to be really good for depression, too. Also, find support groups. There's a lot of power in being to relate to other people with similar problems. Last, try volunteering. You can't help but feel better about yourself when you're helping people less fortunate than you. Good luck with everything! -
I'm at the Kaiser SoCal group... all of San Diego. What have the psych appointments been like? I have diagnosed Bipolar II and BED, but the surgeon didn't seem to be concerned since I'm well into maintenance mode and on a very low dose of the meds. One of my anxieties has been getting through the program only to be rejected by the psychologist, but I've read in medical papers that upwards of 3/4 Bariatric patients have been diagnosed with BED and there is a! 82% depression/anxiety underling psychological case issue. I think I was approved to move forward because I got all of this under control? Any insider information would be greatly appreciated. ❤️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you for the add! Haven't even thought of Tumblr—it would be good to diversify the feed. IG has been incredibly informative from a visual standpoint over what to expect skin-wise et al. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hey! Which Kaiser are you going through? I am going through Richmond Ca Kaiser, they have been great so far. I am on my 2nd psych appt, so any questions, maybe we can talk! Crazy question about your stomach
Kindle replied to Kendell Thatsme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Depends on where you carry your weight and how much excess weight you lose. I was pear shaped with the bulk of my weight in my butt and thighs. So when I lost I didn't have a lot of excess abdominal or upper arm skin. In fact, I nearly have six pack abs, my hip bones protrude more than anything else and I can definitely see more "parts" just by looking down. My butt and thighs, however have wrinkly, droopy skin covering them and I'll never look good in a pair of shorts. But if you are apple shaped, or a higher starting BMI, you may end up with a large flap of skin hanging down past your waistline. My friend who had bypass and lost roughly the same as me has skinny, smooth legs but a lot of loose belly and back skin. -
Why am I losing weight?
christina353 replied to christina353's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, sparkplug! I was wondering if it was normal to not need a fill. I am still doing okay without one. I really don't get hungry. Sometimes I want to eat just because it is something to do but I resist. I am loosing about 1-2 pounds a week. I am afraid that i f I do get a fill, even a tiny one, that I will be too tight since I already have restriction. -
Look, I thought I was too old 2 have this done & I have been loosing weight on their diet. So everyone wants to know why I can't do it myself. I'm having the sleeve on June 24th & I turn 70 on July 1st. I have been going for test & classes for 1 & 1/2 yrs. but I know that it'll be worth it. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

MELANIE (age 5) asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, "If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six." STEVEN (age 3) hugged and kissed his Mom goodnight. "I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window." BRITTANY (age 4) had an earache and wanted a painkiller. She tried In vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her mom explained it was a childproof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: "How does it knowit's me? SUSAN (age 4) was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. "Pleasedon't give me this juice again," she said, "It makes my teeth cough." DREW (age 4) stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: "How much do I cost?" MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: "Why is he whispering in her mouth?" CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried. When his mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, "I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in?" JAMES (age 4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." Concerned, James asked: "What happened to the flea?" TAMMY (age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for awhile and then asked, "Why doesn't your skin fit your face?" The Sermon I think this mom will never forget.... this particular Sunday sermon..."Dear Lord," the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. "Without you, we are but dust." He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was listening!) leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"

My 2 yr is quickly approaching and I must say this surgery has changed my life! I've never been so happy in all my life. I am at a plateau now and would like to lose 20 more pounds but don't know if that is possible. At this point I feel having excess skin removed is the only way to accomplish that. I need support or advice from someone in the same boat on what to do about the final pounds! I am starting to think it won't be possible as I've already lost almost 150 pounds. She was actually shocked and kept asking what I had been doing.(to loose the weight) It did make me feek good.....my family sees me everyday, so they don't tend to see the diffrence as easily. -
Congratulations!!!!! That is so encouraging. I have more to loose than you so if you can get 18 in 3 weeks, so can I! I am still in preop/insurance waiting phase...

Womanvsmirror replied to Womanvsmirror's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Personal preference i kicked out big money this year on wls surgery so don't need to spend money on a trainer to loose weight.. What i need a trainer for is tone, weight lifting, crossfit intense workouts etc.. Plus I'm obsessive over that number on the scale and weight training will make it go up... So i need to be happy with that number first Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk -

I have a large chest. I hate when women have floppy books at the gym. So I do my best to reign these puppies in. I wear my regular under wire bra. Over that, a very tight sport bra, over that, a tank with a built in shelf and then a loose tank. Lol. Sounds crazy but it works.

Frustrations with band
Annette 9/2012 replied to newbeginning2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey bandster buddies: Has anyone tried "you tube" it'ss a great source for advice and there are so many of us banders on you tube! Me under Annnette Corrado and others such as banded wendy and skymoon1984. you tube has a very large WL community on you tube and I love it. I was banded on September 20, 2013 and I have lost 30 pounds and we all have different bodies so we loose our body fat differently, As long as your following the rules and try a accountable journal and write down your feelings-exercise and calories and proteins and SNACKS "I am honest in my journal" so that means when I don't get the number at the end of the week-I know why it's in my journal! I have been hungry since last January-I exercise 6 days a week and count protein and calories now and that seems to help me alot. I will reach my goal this year in 2013. Be strong and fight this it our life of wellness. Good luck! -
Weight loss in mushie stage???
Draven replied to Bandedlexi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lex, it will change for the rest of your life You are feeling less restriction now because your swelling is going down. You are healing from a pretty major surgery. Your insides are super pissed at you right now. so they tried to battle you from within. Your insides have just realized it was a losing battle so they are retreating and unswelling. So you will feel less restriction now. Let your body heal. Show it some mercy. But in a few weeks you will crush their spirits yet again with your first fill!! ( insert evil laugh here) ( p.s. it would look so evil and cool if you were petting a white cat here as well ala any evil genius in a james bond movie). Your body will gather forces again and rebel ( swelling up but really just a futile show of force.). You will be restricted again for a bit but this too shall pass. And than the trick is to find the right amount of fills to produce some serious weight loss. Remember this though. This has now become a life long battle. You will gain a little some days, lose alot others. I often say this, the worst thing we do to our selves is weigh ourselves. It leads to too much worry. Let your body tell you how you are doing. Are your clothes getting a little too loose to be walking around a mall without security stopping you? Are you less out of breathe trying to run away from said security? Let those be your deciding factors for now. And remember- give it time!! you didnt gain weight over night ( although somehow I'm sure I actually did!!!) so you will not lose it all over night ( no matter how many times you write santa, again and again and again and again. I think he read those letters petting his white cat!!) You will do great!!!! -
So happy you have posted and wow, you have lost lots of weight. I can now say I am down 38 lbs and still going and that is without exercise. I am having problems with one foot and the other leg but I try and do upper body exercised at home. There was only one week that I gained a pound but lost that and some more. I miss seeing that green shirt. I love your positive attitude and you gave it to me so lets keep loosing weight and so far no one has noticed my weight lost but you wait until the summer time when I put on that bathing suit. I am going to feel great. Judy

Gastric sleeve reconstruction surgery? Is that another term for the sleeve?
peacheeie posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! As silly as this sounds, this was listed on my post operative report after the swallow test day after sleeve surgery. Is this basically a term for the sleeve surgery or something different? The reason I ask is because while in the hospital, every time the nurses would change shifts, they would present saying "this patient had something different". I've asked my doctor and he said I have a banana sized stomach...really? I pretty much have zero, zero restriction and now I'm concerned. Only had 50 lbs to loose after band removal and am down 20in 3 months...any info would be useful...I go again to see doctor on weds. Thanks
