November Surgery Buddies!!!
ForMyOhana replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, we're in about the same boat. I'm down 83lbs in 3 months and 10 days. Still going in the right direction, even if slowing down. Hitting between 6500 and 9000 steps per day at this point ... that about an hour of walking daily after work. Mixing in band exercises while at the office and while walking. The diet is still fairly clean, especially during the work week.... though I did allow myself a piece of toast today. Only lost 1.8 lbs this week, but a loss is a loss. I had ...probably an unrealistic goal, to reach -100 by my March 17 doctor appointment. Looking like it will be closer to -90. Which of course is still fantastic! Wearing clothes that I haven't been able to wear in a while. Need to break down and buy a couple pairs of salvation army pants soon... as it is I have to wear shorts under my pants to keep them up! Lol. I'm thinking about starting some weight training soon. I know there are different camps on this idea but I want to counter some of the loose skin by building some tone. I'll likely see the scale slow even further but I need to realize that the redistribution of weight is there. Looking forward to the next -17! -
I wasn't allowed to eat fruit that had skins or seeds for the first few weeks (strawberries definitely have seeds) - but like others have said, check with your plan. Plans can vary...

PS: I forgot to mention that I also have acanthosis nigricans which is the very unfortunate side of PCOS, anyways I was just wondering if anyone who had the bypass and has this skin condition how does your skin look now? did you guys have to have some type of laser, or any other treatments afterwords so it can fade?

Changes to my program in the 7 years since I was sleeved
Arabesque replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not shaving my legs for a week? Yikes. I’d be booking in for waxing the week before. 😆. I had to use an anti bacterial wash the night before my surgery too & wash my hair with it. Bit drying on the skin & then couldn't moisturise. Didn’t have to with my gall removal 2yrs later though 🤷🏻♀️ Sounds like you’re doing well so far - congrats. -
Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
lizonaplane replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm surprised your calories are that low so far out. I eat 900-1200 calories and I'm five months out. Some days are even higher. Maybe try to increase calories for a few days/week to see if that shakes something loose? -
RYGB- Limb Lengthening
Nifer72 replied to Toshab's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm getting ready to have this surgery done in March. Had my original RnY done in Jan of 2001. It's been 20 years. I lost 95lbs and haven't gained it back, but I still have about 100-125 to loose. Good to know that I should expect slower weight loss. -
How often does a sleeve need to be converted to bypass?
Pabc posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had sleeve placed last week. Sleeve was chosen because I had pre-existing pancreatic insufficiency resulting in a lot of loose stools requiring use of pancreatic enzymes. My GI doc and surgeon thought sleeve would cause less problem with malabsorption and further diarrhea. As I read, I’m seeing a large number of sleeve patients develop severe reflux/gastritis and new hiatal hernias. Can anyone comment on how often this happens or ways to prevent it? Thank you! -
Hi! I got my gastric sleeve done 6 weeks back. Problem is, that if I am wearing a bra, it constricts my stomach/general area so much so I can barely eat one bite of food every 4-5 hours. That too when I move around a lot during those 4-5 hours - otherwise it just feels like it is stuck in my oesophagus. I know it is the bra’s constriction because eating is not that difficult when i don’t have it on. My questions are: 1. Has anyone felt the constriction because of a bra as well? I wear a very loose sports bra and the band is tight at all. 2. Apart from the usual restriction that is expected after a gastric sleeve, does eating eventually get a little easier?

Collagen supplements after surgery...chews anyone?
Arabesque replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Stumbled upon this article this morning: https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2021-09-24/collagen-skin-care-what-is-it-how-good-is-it/100431694 It basically says the body can’t absorb the collagen found in supplements. There is no real research to support the taking of collagen except that done by the companies that make it. 🙄 The slowing of your hair loss @SummerTimeGirl could be the natural conclusion of the rapid hair loss cycle. It usually only lasts 3 or so months. It’s more likely due to your increased Protein intake than the collagen. 🙂 -
I'm both a slow loser, and a serial staller. I've lost weight post-surgery at the same rate I did when I tried the old-school calorie counting. I've never had the "honeymoon period" folk on here talk about. I've lost count of how many stalls I've had, and have just this week finally broken another three week stall of zero weight loss. Like you, I follow my plan to the letter, do regular exercise, and know I eat at a large calorie deficit. So I absolutely know how you feel! But as The Greater Fool said - you cannot compare yourself to others, and you cannot let yourself be ruled by the scale. The weight IS coming off, and if it's coming off slower, that's not a bad thing! With luck my slow rate will give my skin the best chance of bouncing back. The trick is to enjoy your own journey without worrying about others, and to celebrate your own little milestones and victories. Because they're happening.

Collagen supplements after surgery...chews anyone?
Flab-U-Less Forever replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks @SummerTimeGirl and @Arabesque...I will continue my collagen supplements knowing they may not be doing anything. They are cheap so they won't hurt and with fingers crossed they might help with skin conditioning. I won't invest in anything expensive. -
Collagen supplements after surgery...chews anyone?
SummerTimeGirl replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I started powder collagen like a month ago too. That and Hyaluronic Acid. I read that to really see the affects of collagen you have to have been using it for at least 3 months. So, guess we'll see in a few months cause I gotta say, not seeing a difference in my hair, skin or anything else as of now. -
Collagen supplements after surgery...chews anyone?
Arabesque replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I added a collagen powder to the high protein drink I had every second day & also added liquid silica to the mix (BioCeuticals which is a practitioner quality brand - don’t know if you can get it in the US). I also did a couple of 6 week radio frequency treatments to stimulate collagen. Can I say it actually did anything to help my skin? Nope. My nails didn’t get stronger either & I still went through the har loss cycle most of us experience. I have some loose skin on my face & on my body but I did stretch out my skin being overweight so it is to be expected. We all seem to go through a stage where we all look drawn & haggard but once we get into maintenance everything seems to settle. I sometimes wonder if the actual texture of my skin improved but that is more likely down to my more balanced nutrient dense diet & being even more vigilant about my fluid consumption (& maybe regular facials ). -

Currently I am taking collagen to help my skin prior to surgery. Has anyone tried any soft chew collagen supplements after surgery? If so, which ones do you recommend or ones you think are horrible? TIA -
Too Big for Sleeve?
liveaboard15 replied to simplysmile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know some surgeons wont do surgery if you are super big. The one i remember said anything above 57 BMI they dont do surgery. But i seen tons of people loose a lot of weight being in the 300's. I am about 320lb and i am 5'4. doing pre op testing now. But as long as you stick to it you will loose weight. -

Another Tummy Tuck Experience
Toesinthewater replied to Toesinthewater's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Goal of the future scar revision is to move the incision under the tattoo down closer to where my underwear are and to remove more of the tattoo so that the incision looks more like a "handlebar" and less like a "grin". FYI: What's left of the tattoo is the half that was originally above my belly button so you can have some idea how much skin was removed. The tummy tuck didn't give me my 20 something stomach back but I'm happy with the results so far. The "final" result won't be apparent for several more months. Plus the lipo should help. -
Saggy skin after wls
catwoman7 replied to JessiPhoenix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost over 200 lbs, so I had a ton of saggy skin. Things like Spanx helped (at least appearance-wise), but I eventually had it surgically removed. It was very easy to hide under clothes, so no one knew it was there but me (well, and my husband) - but I didn't like looking at it. Anyway, this is me BEFORE I had the skin removed. My thighs were never that bad, but I had moderate batwing arms - and my abdomen looked HORRIBLE. But it was easy enough to hide in slightly oversized, long tops with 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves. Anyway, again, this was taken before I had plastic surgery, so as you can see, the excess skin isn't noticeable (but trust me...it was there!!) -
(2018) I was around 211 when I got pregnant and delivered at 240. I still had elevated blood pressure throughout my pregnancy. I also did have gestional diabetes so I was induced at 37 weeks & 3days. With my second(2020) I was 220 when I got pregnant and delivered at 240 again. He is now 14 months and I'm 139lbs. So it did take me a lot longer to loose the weight, but I was only 22 when I got the surgery. I don't regret taking longer to loose the weight.

What what it like the first time of you don’t mind me asking? Did you loose weight after?

Saggy skin after wls
ShoppGirl replied to JessiPhoenix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as I know there is nothing you can do to prevent saggy skin. If it’s going to happen it just will. Those compression garments will certainly help with the appearance of saggy skin, though and if you already had excess skin surgically removed then you probably haven’t had it stretched out for very long which is a good thing. -
So, I'm a little worried about the whole saggy skin thing. I had the lap band done and lost about 70 lbs in 5 months. I didn't really have any saggy skin, just a little "pouch" in my stomach area. But my arms and legs were fine. Fast forward to now, I had to have it removed for medical reasons and I'm nervous for the weight loss after my bypass. I'm older now and have alot more health problems that have prevented me from being active. I was looking at getting those arms sleeve wraps to see if they might help during weight loss. And maybe one of those things that look like Spanx. Has anyone tried any of these? What has worked for you on helping with saggy skin?

Stall or just a slow loser?
summerseeker replied to Livgreen___'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes as Hop scotch and Grady Cat have said Weigh once a week at the most. You will loose no matter what and looking at the scales and wanting to watch the fat disappear doesn't work. It only leads to annoyance and stress. In the little time you have had you have done amazing. Others will do better than you and some will loose slower. Its your journey, so have a little patience and time to get to the end
