Day 3 post op and can drink liquids so well it scares me
mooki replied to CammyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mooooorning team! How many days post are we now? Lemme go count.....10! Woopwoop. Wow it’s been a lot within 10 days! @krimson - hydration helps with the fatigue Ina. Big way. I can’t hit 64oz either. However I can now hit 32 if I’m determined. Hang in there. It will also help immensely with the pooping. Well done on resisting the need to chew!! You can do this because you are doing it! Every day! And we wanna live with no regrets 🥰 Getting up and dressed will help. And walk walk walk. It’s the walking that’s helping me I reckon. Not that I’m any expert. @biginJapan ohhhh will be so much easier if you’re home and can start a routine. I don’t know much about stool colour but I do know pooping is key. Haha. If what is going in is ok then I wouldn’t worry about the colour. My inexpert opinion again. Haha. @cammyC - ooooh noooo dumping syndrome sounds awful!!! Be strong and no lactose!! Thinking of you. Your comment on chocolate pooping made me laugh. Ooooh the chats we have. Hahahaha. I am so sure the purées food will help. I was put on the milk diet preop and was lethargic and miserable. Have been on purée post op and have been soo much better. I think it will help! So my big lesson for today is to not weigh myself every day. I got a bit of a shock that we are only 10 days post op. I went down 2.2llbs (1kg) the last two days but then this morning the scale didn’t budge. I was sad until I realised that 10 days is nothing and I need to reign in my crazy and trust the process. The other thing I keep doubting is that the sleeve is working. I think I need to stick to set periods for eating. I was trying to get all my protein shake down which would take me the entire morning, but then I felt like I was over eating. My plan says breakfast. Morning snack. Lunch. Etc. So I’m going to try that approach. An hour to get as much protein shake in then quits til snack time. Also my sleeve is working. I’m sitting here with half my coffee drunk and I feel stuffed. I really wish I could turn off my brain. It just complicates things. Haha. Anyway. I LOVE hearing from you all. I haven’t told a soul I had the surgery because I lacked the courage to, but so it’s such a relief to be able to share the journey with you all. Xx -
Upcoming surgery and"The Plague"

I apologize if this is an ignorant & anxiety driven comment but does vgs put us at higher risk for complications associated with c-17 if otherwise healthy ? -
Scheduled April 9th Surgery Day!!!!
Rose57 replied to PuddinJasper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scheduled on 4/16 for Duodenal Switch surgery. I've just been reading up on everything I can on the procedure and this forum to help reduce anxiety. I have started buying chicken and beef broth and will try to have everything I need for the various diet stages. Yes, I'm a little nervous too. The only surgery I've had is the removal of tonsils and that was 56 years ago lol. I watch too many medical TV shows and worry about complications during surgery. Hang in there ! -
Recovery time off...
BadWolfGirl replied to JennaKenna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As the people above me have said, everyone's different. I work from home so I only took a couple days. I was also pretty fit and healthy, had no complications, and was cleared for the gym in 2 weeks. I was traveling at 3 weeks. Energy level was definitely lower until calories could catch up around 4 weeks. I'm a mover. I would have lost my mind with too much time. But again, everyone is different Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -
Did anyone have complications post op
NovaLuna replied to Socee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well... technically I didn't have any complications. But, I have EOS (Eosinophilic Esophagitis), which is an immune disorder that causes narrowing in the esophagus and leads to choking. Because of the narrowing I had to warn the surgical staff that they would likely need a pediatric intubation kit to intubate me (learned this hard way when I had brain surgery in 2017 and the surgical staff hadn't listened to me and they had to stall my surgery to hunt one down when they couldn't intubate me. they should have listened!). So, they give you those blood thinner shots before your surgery and so when they intubated me, even though it was the pediatric one, it was still a tight fit and because of the blood thinners... blood settled in my stomach. A couple hours after my surgery I started vomiting blood which freaked me and everyone in my family the hell out! The doctors and nurses were all "It's just old blood, you're fine" They told me it was probably a combination of my EOS and also having 80% of my stomach removed and the blood just sat there. It happened four times in those first 24 hours and it HURT! But it probably explains why I honestly couldn't eat or drink anything after my surgery. I struggled with getting more than a bite of jello or two sips of broth in my stomach and they had to keep pouring water into those little medicine cups that I literally had lined around the bed tray because I was sucking on ice rather than drinking. They took my ice away! T^T -

Did anyone have complications post op

I had bypass and a hiatal hernia repair. I think total time was about 3 hours. I was walking as soon as I could get out of bed. I was up to 10,000 steps by day 7. Even so, I developed 3 blood clots in my left leg and had to go on a blood thinner for 3 months. At 6 months, I developed an ulcer, even though I do not drink any alcohol at all, do not drink coffee or any caffeinated drinks or soda, and eat a very clean diet. It just happened. But it is all under control now with omeprazole and I go back in 3 weeks for another scope. Then I will be off the omeprazole, hopefully. Still, I do not regret the surgery at all. My little complications are nothing compared to the life I was literally losing to obesity. WLS was one of the best things I ever did for myself. -
Did anyone have complications post op

I had LGS on March 3rd. My mom said I was in surgery around an hour and a half - two hours. It was outpatient and I was out of the hospital within two hours after surgery on my way home. The gas pain so bad I had to get out of there and start walking lol. I haven’t had any complications. My dr had me come in for IV fluids the next day at his office and that helped a lot. Day 7 post op today and feeling great! I’m happy to be off the pain meds and out of that fog. -
I'm in canada and really most ppl here do rny. Wondering if anyone ran into any complications after vsg. Also how long did your surgery take in the OR? Thanks any feedback would be great
-
I had SIPS laproscopically and it was about 2.5 hours. They book the room for much longer just in case there are any complications that come up, but it's not as long as you would think.
-
I had the Loop Duodenal Switch and my surgery was about an hour and a half. I went in at 8am and my family came in to see me in recovery around 11. So it was pretty quick for me and I had no complications. Hope that answers your question...

I can't quite remember how long my wife's was, but I think that it is usually in the 2-3 hour range but can be much longer (6-8 hours) if a patient presents complications (extremely obese, lots of prior surgeries leaving adhesions, etc.) Also, some docs do other associated procedures along with the DS, like gall bladder and/or appendix removal.
-
Yes. I have lost almost 90 lbs. and am still losing very slowly a year and a half out. The only thing, and I would hardly call it a complication, is mild constipation, so I eat 3 prunes every morning with breakfast. It works. I'm thrilled with the whole experience. I can't say LESS complications because I have only had the one procedure. I would have had either.
-
to be honest, it really doesn't have many more potential complications than sleeve does. Neither surgery does, really. Lots of us from both surgery camps have never had issues.
-
Agreed . My issues with that is... rny has more complications and malnourishment then the sleeve so to revise to bypass is okay.. but what if u have issues after the revision.. we would be stuck we already lost 80 percent to the sleeve .. thoughts?? I was veering to vsg but I am now thinking maybe rny I'm so confused
-
Sleeve. Didn't need to lose as much weight as some, no history of reflux. 7 mo out, no complications, ahead of schedule.
-
Amazing and the sleeve is working for you and less complications?
-
Oh my gosh. That sounds just awful! I'm very happy you are doing well now. That is all so scary. I hope this was the last of the complications as well. They aren't messing around when they say this is a big decision. I think that's the most valuable lesson I learned. A lot of people were like, "oh it's so routine now, no one ever has any problems" before I got the surgery. But complications can still and do very much happen. And it's frustrating and scary when it happens to you because there's no way you can ever be prepared for that.

My surgeon recommends the sleeve to everyone under normal circumstances unless they have GERD. If I had GERD I would have gotten a bypass. No complications, very pleased.

March 10th surgery date
Nermada replied to Confidently_Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't need them to call for that, I'm right there with you right now! So, 16 years ago I had my stomach stapled and did not think about it twice and due to complications (stricture and severe gerd) gained half the weight back. This time around the head games started last week. I know this ultimately IS the right step in moving forward healthfully and otherwise, so I know I HAVE to stop letting doubt in and just keep moving forward and tackle everything else as it comes. You are going to be just fine, Trish and God willing, after maybe regretting it for the first week or two, you will swear it's the best decision you ever made, just like 99% of this board members. Hugs and prayers to ALL!❤ -
I had GERD before surgery, so it was a no-brainer: RNY. I've been very happy with my choice - no complications.

March 2020 Post-op Thread
Patsfandiane replied to biginjapan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had a complicated RNY on March 3rd. Doctor repaired multiple hernias, abrasions, and scar tissue as well as had to remove part of my stomach. Pain is pretty isolated to my packed wound (from where he removed my stomach). Looking forward to having a community that has gone through this at the same time. -
see link below https://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/gastric-sleeve-vs-bypass.html I am a sleeve almost 6 years out and maintaining. Less invasive and less chance of dumping syndrome. No complications.
-
my date is 27th March and I am absolutely terrified and not sleeping. My head flits from wanting to cancel to wanting to get it done. I feel sad that it has come to this but I know if I don't have the op then I have to accept a lifetime of being overweight and unhappy, and my weight continuing to rise. what has helped me is trying to visualise a positive outcome, seeing myself coming home from surgery with no complications and the thought of being healthy and slim in the summer.
