I had lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks, too. I was still 17 pounds down at 10 weeks. Now check out my ticker.... 10 pounds under goal and maintaining 2 years out. The rate at which you lose has nothing to do with your ultimate long term success. Just get in all your protein and water, stay away from simple carbs, and put the scale away for a couple weeks. Relax and Enjoy the NSVs

So im at a christmas party , at my best friends home. His wife who has supported me and I are talking about clothes shopping. I like talking about thrift shopping and my latest finds ( got a pair of dress pants, gorgeous ones, from goodwill the other day, 4.99, they were from Barney's of New York and had the tags still on them for 250 bucks retail....( yay me!) Anyway, she tells me she has a few pairs of american eagle jeans that her son ( then 16) outgrew last year, and would I like them? SO of course i said sure! I never looked at the size i had already mentioned i was wearing 32 waist 30 inseam jeans that day. SO i assumed they were my size. My friend even laughed and said, man can you imagine wearing jeans my 16 year old son wore? Now i only recently even tried getting into 32/30 jeans. End of november i was wearing 36/30 jeans, then 34/30 jeans a few weeks ago. So the move to the 32's has been very recent. SO anyway, I get home later that evening and i look at the jeans. The tag reads 29/30 . Of course i laugh and hold them up, they look like something ELmo would fit into. Straight cut by the way. As a joke i throw a leg into them, and then the other..... Yes you guessed it, THEY FIT! No not wonderfully. I wouldn't tuck in a dress shirt in em. But damn! i could wear em. Holy %$#k! Are you shitting me? People, just for reference, it was 1 year ago I was wearing 56's Now 1 year and 1 week later post surgery and Im able to fit into a 29 waist? Yea i don't think I stopped smiling for several hours. Heck i'm smiling now just thinking about it. My in laws came over today for our christmas, and they gave me a very nice gift card to nordstroms ( which i have never shopped at ) and said to " buy something you wouldn't normally buy for yourself , to celebrate" ( my birthday was 3 days ago.) So im going to do a little shopping! ( with Nordstroms prices, it wont be much, but? it'll be fun!) If it seems like i'm bragging, I apologize, i'm sure there's a little brag in there, but I wanted to say to those who are fighting the good fight and struggling....You can do this! I anxiously wait for your GOAL post! Keep all those NSV's coming. They all add up and mean a lot. You can get there. Don't give up!

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store
Alex Brecher replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Inner Surfer Girl and everyone else who had a similar NSV…congratulations! Being able to do those “normal” things that other people don’t even think about is just so wonderful. It makes life so much sweeter. And I bet you all look and feel fantastic in those smaller, more fashionable clothes! Dub, Congratulations to you, too. As much as I love being smaller, though, I have to say I’ve never learned to love shopping. Enjoy it, though! You deserve it! -
So as of today I am almost 3 months out from VSG and I have lost 55lbs. Today is Christmas and things are very different this year, for the first time in my life I didn't overeat into misery at Christmas dinner, I have stayed well within my nutritional goals for the day, and (here's a big one for me) I came home and worked out when we got back from the family gathering I have never ever done that before. For me today was a few big NSVs that made the holiday all that much more enjoyable! ???? On the left was at my all time highest weigh, middle was at surgery, and right was a few weeks ago.

That is so great! I haven't worn jeans in decades. I would consider being able to wear Mom Jeans as an NSV myself.

I know exactly how you feel! I finally had to stop myself from looking at other;s stats and focusing on how far I've come. Also, the suggestion above about NSVs is dead on. The numbers don't mean as much as dropping 14 pant sizes and 4 shirt sizes! That is an incredible accomplishment. Even more impressive are the health benefits you list. You are kicking butt, my friend!

I haven't had my VSG YET but I am already experiencing some NSV. Not having to stretch the bottom of my tshirt out for it to fit me feels odd...but it feels good!!

Competitiveness is a blessing and a curse, or in our better natures a tool. But if the only tool you have is a hammer, you will tend to see every problem as a nail. So they key is to channel the energy to maximum advantage. That can only be done by mindfully determining goals that work for you. I would suggest that you turn from scale victories to NSV's like biking etc.

would you recommend?
4MRB4PHOTO replied to dbatche's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I recommend it. Yes, I would do it all over again. My comorbidities are lessened or completely gone, my self-esteem is very good, I feel great, I have had more NSVs then I can shake a stick at, I am adding years to my life, etc., etc. My only regret was not having a VSG sooner. Make the best educated decision on the procedure that is correct for you. Research as much as you can, attend a WLS seminar, WLS support groups and have your PCP, surgeon and any specialists you may be seeing all on board. Congratulations. -
NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

@@Inner Surfer Girl, you've been given credit for recognizing a universal NSV in one of them-there "status" thingies. @@Dub, is that a new signature photo you put up there in the past few days? You're looking great. Maybe you can get away with the primary language question by claiming to be in Tbilisi, Georgia? -
Hear ye! An important NSV that has never been mentioned is not having to spend on shipping charges because local stores have puny selections of plus and big & tall sizes.

Thanks for this NSV awareness go to Inner Surfer Girl, who yesterday mentioned the savings in a topic about being able to shop anywhere.

@@Inner Surfer Girl, you're the top. Isn't not having to spend on shipping charges an NSV? It should be counted among them! -

@@Pinkgirl1234 - I agree with you but NOT all women are catty, but some of us are VERY catty - and especially when it comes to weight gain or weight loss. just sayin' @@ididit34 - NSVs like wearing smaller pants are THE best and I remind myself a lot that even though the scale isn't showing huge loses the pants/shirts are getting smaller

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

I have had to order or have most of my clothes made for several years now. The last time I placed an online order for a sweater it turned out to be too big (even though I had measured a few weeks before). Today, I stopped at the local JC Penney and bought three sweaters a size smaller and they fit. This should tide me over through Christmas and New Years and I hope I can make it a couple of months before having to buy more since I don't mind sweaters that are a bit big. The next time I go in there I should be out of the Women's section, at least for my tops! -

I went to eat dinner with the family after church for my son's birthday and they seated us in the dreaded booth! I squeezed myself in there the best way I could and just sat there thinking that much longer this won't be an issue . I might as well go ahead and share my most modifying moment of being obese while I'm at it. We went to an amusement park and I got on the ride. I kid you not, I had 1 of the workers in the front coaching me to "suck it in" while 2 other workers was in the back holding on to the seat as support. I was so embarrassed and not only that but I was uncomfortable the whole time the ride was going from not being able to breath and having my mid section stuffed in that ride. I won't know how to act when I am able to get in a ride and not worry about embarrassing myself or my family. Those are just a couple of NSV's I'm looking forward to!! Not sure what compelled me to share this but maybe some of you can relate... -
A year ago, I couldn't have...

I got a hysterical mental picture of that, Babbs! ???? Now THAT'S a great NSV. A year ago I couldn't run more than 30 seconds without feeling I would have a heart attack. Now I can run five minutes without any pain. -

@@Kindle, How did I miss this post earlier this month? Thank you for the update on your progress. I always enjoy your posts. I am sorry for your losses in your brother and best friend. Perhaps the pain will lessen in time? But kudos on your NSV in not turning to alcohol and food to deal with the pain. I hope 2016 will be a good year for you. -
