Anyone tried eating 8 days post op?
nienie replied to mfee08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why would you sabotage your WLS?? You are only 8 days out and it is so important to follow the guidelines that you were given. Follow your surgeon's program-if you don't that is where problems and complications begin. One of the main complications that can occur from trying no foods to fast is a stricture. I have not had one but they aren't fun and when you have one you need to go back in for an outpatient procedure. Im not saying that six months to a year from now you won't cheat on foods we shouldn't eat but being so early out just don't do it. -
I need to eat! I've starting timing it and it's really true! And I'm eating high protein foods. I'll be 5 weeks out on Tuesday! Whoa. It went by fast! Anyone else have this happen to them? And it's hunger, not acid.
-
I listen to my body. I also think you cant say you're watching the clock and eating too fast. You naturally eat faster until you have good restriction, as restriction increases, you slow down.

Hot Tea to open myself up so my meds won't come back up on me. I then take Fiber Choice, Max Strength Antacid for Calcium and my Flinstone Vitamin. Then Low Carb chocolate Slim Fast while I put on my make-up and fix my hair. Then I eat thinned Cinnamon Weight Control oatmeal with one sweet n low packet. I love me some oatmeal in the morning. I use to not eat Breakfast in the morning at all, so this is a total turn around for me. I feel so much better spreading my food out through the day and my metabolism has awaken from the coma I had it in for years. My sleeping patterns has also changed since I have been banded! I use to force myself to roll out of bed at 10:00 am then stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning. Now I wake up at 8:00 am ready to get up, and I usually am ready to head to bed no later then 11:00 pm. Has anyone else noticed a sleeping pattern change since banding?

"Restarting" weight loss by restarting fills.
gkeyt replied to rcorn60035's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is exactly what is so great about the band. Unlike any of the other weight loss surgeries, which work best in the first 18 months or so then sort of stop, the band can always work for you if you want to work it. And you do! So no problem, just get your fills and get back in the game. Do it carefully though--you don't want to rush through getting big fills too fast, that is a set up for getting overfilled and starting that vicious cycle. I hope you are all healed up and feeling better now! What an ordeal. Good luck to you. -
Starting my journey with SOME GOOD NEWS!!!
MaryfromMI replied to MaryfromMI's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
May does seem like a long ways away, but hopefully the time will go fast. Just try to stay busy and focus on the positive and the time will fly!!! Just wanted to add that I just got done calling my insurance AGAIN...I got a packet of papers to fill out from my surgeon and included in it was a insurance worksheet. I had to call them to ask if they covered all the potential tests, what is needed to send to insurance, etc. Once again, they told me I had to go on a 6-month diet, but I didn't argue with them, I just let the lady talk. But then she started getting mean with me and saying that all the questions I was asking should be answered by my surgeon because of an inquiry policy and there is no way the surgeon could get away from answering my questions. I explained why he wanted me to ask these questions, but I don't think she understood that I needed to do this so my surgeon could become my surgeon and not that he already was. Based on the information I give the surgeon will help the surgeon decide on whether or not I will be his patient. I hope I never have to call them again. I am always so frustrated and agitated after talking to them!:blushing: Has anyone else had to do the insurance worksheet? -
I got the shock of my life today when I called the surgeons office. This process has been so slow for me, that I just expected it to continue to be a slow process. I have finally finished my nut visits and the psychological eval, so I called the surgeons office to schedule my consultation appointment. After being placed on hold for a bit, I was told that my appointment will be set for May 23rd! I was not expecting to get an appointment with him in 4 days!!! I am both excited and nervous knowing that this is the appointment when I will hopefully learn my surgery date. All of a sudden after months and months of waiting it just feels like it is all happening too fast. I am starting to feel like I am so not ready for all of it. I have not even started my list of questions for him! I am so thankful to have found this community, I have been lurking and reading for a while and have learned so much from everyone here!

The skin... if you don't loose weight too rapidly your body can adjust to the excess skin and "absorb" it. Depending on how much and how fast there is a possibility that one will need plastic surgery to remove the excess skin and fat. As for the 2 weeks of liquids... it takes a few days (maybe 2-3) and you get over the need to eat or cheat. I promise you (I did my pre-op diet before cancelling my surgery before) it gets easier. I am still alive it doesn't kill you. Hang in there and know it does get easier and it will all be worth it. God luck.

Ok, now let's get this straight. You had surgery to lose weight and want to know if it's normal to lose weight???? YES! Great isn't it to see the scale go down? You're normal, enjoy it. at some point you won;t be losing so fast and you be back on here asking why you lost so fast before and now the scales have slowed way down. It's all normal! Happens to most of us.

Hey everyone! So I'm still on my 90 day weight loss management, and my provider has me on a low calorie high Protein diet which I'm sure we all are on. So this is my 3rd week of the diet, I've been really strict with myself and taking it completely seriously. I haven't had fast food or any dessert food in this 3 week period. The only problem I am having is that I haven't really lost weight! I have maybe lost 2-3lbs but it is constantly going up and down. TMI ALERT: Constipation is also being an issue which also effects the number on the scale. So my question is, has anybody else gone through this issue? If so what were some things you did to help. With the way I am eating and basically living off protein supplements and chicken, I thought I would have lost at least 5lbs by now. I have increased my Fiber as well as taking Probiotics but it's not working. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just got a fill this morning and am at 9.5cc's. I stayed in the office and drank a glass of water and it stayed down. Now 7 hours later my water keeps coming up. Even the coffee I drank 12 hours ago before the fill is coming up. I am sipping now. Is it that I was drinking too fast? Is this normal right after a fill when I am swollen? I have not had any other liquids today so I have had no nutrition. I am in bed because I am so tired which I think is from low blood sugar. I will sip some chicken broth later for nutrition. I am a little hungry. I have not walked today but after I drink water I have been getting up and walking around the house hoping the water will stay down. Needing your responses! Thanks

:confused:Man am I hungry. Can not wait for my first fill so I can eat something solid and start to let the band make feel full. This not eating is getting old fast. Not easy for a fat guy. Hopefully it will all be worth it looking in the rearview mirror.

7 my days till my surgery.
Little bird replied to Valerier980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I'm a Dec 18 sleever. I'm day three of my pre op fast. I need to lose 5 by the 12th to get the clearance from my nutritionist. I have hope. -
Hey Franny, congrats on your weight loss to date. It sounds like you have the same problem as me and I gurantee you're probably eating too fast. This is such a hard habit to break (easier said than done, I know!) One thing that has kinda helped me is to cut a small bite and when I put the food in my mouth I put my fork/spoon down! I kinda hinders the urge from wanting to put more food in my mouth while trying to get the existing down. Also make sure your bites are small! My doctor said that size should be about the size of your thumbnail and naturally chew, chew, chew. If you have tried all of that and are still having problems getting food down, then I would call your doctor. Good luck to you and keep in touch!

I had surgery a few years back and in the past year and half I have gained appx 20 lbs, a couple of pounds at a time. I don't know if it is my age or what. I don't eat that much because if I do it comes back as fast as it went in. I don't eat late because it make me cough and choke at night if I do. Is it too late to start loosing again? Any suggestions of what to do? I only had 3 fills but no more than I eat that is sufficient.

Need some advice
bebeandkoko replied to Danny'sGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear you're feeling bad. It sounds like the beginning of Protein deficiency and dehydration. The protein deficiency can happen fast and is very trying to recover from when you get to the point of not being able to hold anything down. I highly recommend you go to the ER tonight and not wait for an appointment. You definitely need IV fluids. I hope you feel better! Hugs. -
It could have been and intervention. Maybe the old Hospital and/or Doctor was not doing a good job and you will find a much better place. Don't jump to fast, find somewhere you are completely comfortable with. Check them out. It took me a year to get approved and tested.

Something I wanted to let you guys know... After getting sleeved, you will feel like you regret even getting it. (Atleast some ppl feel like this, not all) You will have head hunger.. Thinking you're hungry when you're not... For me it was VERY hard to see the fast food commercials on TV. I thought I was going to die lol You will get sick & tired of liquids & purée... It sucks big time. I'm over 5 months post op ; & I am letting you know now.. IT GETS ALOT EASIER!!!! Knock out your few weeks of the soft foods stage & you will feel better about surgery! & when you get farther in your journey ; you'll deff realize that you don't regret it. Hope this helps some ppl!

Stomach After Surgery
DEZ1975 replied to almosthome's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your internal staple line forms scar tissue and that's what holds everything together. The 5 hold in your belly heal pretty fast. -

Reactive hypoglycemia
Djmohr replied to StefanieSparklePants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definately have this issue although it has improved. It stems from letting too many carbs into your diet. I like cream of wheat Cereal in the am and if I don't follow that after about an hour with some type of Protein like cheese, Protein Bar or even lunch meat, I will get an episode that simply keeps on going throughout the day. I have found them to be pretty dangerous because they come on very fast and I have found myself confused and feeling like crap fast. I get the shakes so bad that i sometimes cannot even stick myself to get a glucose reading. My sugar got so low a couple of weeks ago that it read 32. That was a nasty episode and I had glucose tablets but could not find them. Since that horrible incident, I try to really limit my sugar intake and I am much more careful now but I will always have glucose tablets at hand just in case. It works the fastest for me when it happens but I want to avoid it happening. -
Good luck! You're having more real food than I was so soon after the surgery. I couldn't have any real food for 3 1/2 weeks. I have been on real food for about 10-12 days and love it! One food that I am allowed is crab meat and I love lump crab. I eat it a lot and it goes down great.I have the hip cups when I eat too fast or drink too fast. I get them a few times a day. Burping, I have always done and passing gas I think is from my shakes. I use a blender with lots of ice to make a really thick shake.
-
I plan to find an unflavored I can handle, I haven't start trying them yet but will once I get a surgery date. I think those sweet pre-made shakes would get old really fast and getting enough protein from your food would be hard the first few weeks or months because the sleeve can only hold so much. People mix unflavored with jello and pudding mixes, water with flavoring like Crystal Light, even things like Cream of Wheat and soups. You can puree the soup and put it in that (just watch the temp, if you mix it with something too hot it will clump)

June 5, 2008 I have been an elementary school teacher for 34 years. With retirement not just a mere vision anymore, but a viable conclusion to an enjoyable career, I knew I must get my life and health under control. For most of my adult life, I can remember being overweight. I was so tired of fighting the fight, diet after diet; Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Atkins, South Beach, Physician's Weight Loss (that one landed me in the hospital). The only thing I lost besides a few pounds was my hair. Goodness, I'm destined to be an old, fat, bald lady. With two grandchildren and a hearty spirit, I made up my mind that this summer I would "really work hard to get my health in order." It was actually going to be another goal set for yet another summer. I was going to start on the South Beach Diet plan which I liked above all the others. Then one day I get "THE PHONE CALL." Now for those of us who are FAT (might as well admit it), we don't like to be reminded of our problem. Our family is tired of hearing us say we're going to go on another diet, or this time will be different or I'm really ready now. Well, that's how it was with me. So imagine my surprise when my sister, Stef, calls me up out of the blue and asks me what my plans are for this summer. Well, of course I told her. I'm gonna get my health in order. I'm going on "ANOTHER DIET!!!!!" And this will be THE ONE. Stef was so happy to hear me say that and right away a red flag went up because I don't think my family members were ever happy to hear me announce yet another diet plan. But Stephanie went on to tell me that she had been conniving (my word) with my daughter, Rebecca. Oh I forgot to put Rebecca in my profile. But more about her later. Anyways, she had been lamenting to her aunt about her mom's poor health and her worries about my eating myself into an early grave. (my words again). Stephanie thought about this for a long time then made the call that would come to change my life. She called mom to see if she would foot the bill for my surgery and then proceeded to check with all the sibs to make sure they didn't feel slighted by losing a small chunk of their inheritance. My thoughts were reinforced when I learned that my family really did love me and care about me and it's not about the money, it's about 'our sister.' So, I've taken the bull by the horns. I am scheduled for my Lap-Band surgery on Friday, June 27th, 2008. This will be the first day of the rest of my life. Follow me on my journey. have been an elementary school teacher for 34 years. Banded 3-6-14, Severe Pain. Help?
kmb67 replied to Jennifer Michelle Plumley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just banded a few days ago and still feel like I got hit by a bus! Thought I would also bounce back quickly, but that hasn't been the case. The gas has gotten a little better, but I get so stiff from laying and sitting. I'm taking regular Tylenol and Gas X strips. I keep thinking of the end results, but am bummed I'm not bouncing back as fast as I had thought.
