Struggling with weight loss
Happy Stylist replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
From what I understand since I’m still under the 1year mark is the reason for the lower calorie. Honestly at this point I’m scared to even up my calories. When I add back different foods I gain weight. Now I’m just not losing. I feel stuck in the 170s. I’ve been here since November -
Struggling with weight loss
Happy Stylist replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly when I started adding foods like grilled chicken and other veggies I started noticing that my weight increased. I’ve lost a few of those pounds but not all. I’m not back eating just yogurt and drinking protein shakes. Occasionally I’ll eat grilled chicken and veggies but I limit it now. My vitamin levels are good. All blood work is good. yes I’ve talked to my wl team. They haven’t been much help ( in my opinion) they just seem to not believe me 🤷🏼♀️ Yes I do have artificial sweeteners. One coffee a day with Splenda and sugar free creamer. Sugar free jello and sugar free redi whip Very little processed food is in my diet. I will eat cheese with my veggies or chichen when I do eat that. Unless what I said above is considered processed. I eat no lunch meat or protein bars. My team has me on low calorie low carb and I stick to it. But occasionally I might go over but it’s not daily or even every other day. I weigh my food and don’t go over the 6 oz of food per meal I get 80 oz of water a day. -
Struggling with weight loss

TBH I would want to be looking for a new team. I am shocked by how low your calorie count is. I am also shocked by how accepting your team is of this low calorie count. I know lots of people on this forum do not get to their goal weight, which is why I set mini goals. Many are heartbroken by this and go off the rails. Have they said your goal weight is attainable for you? You started at a lower weight than me and I understand that it is harder for lighter people to loose the weight. I did your ideal BMI on a NHS site [ Your USA one may differ] For you it says 120lbs to 159 lbs for a normal weight. So 150 should be attainable. But would I want to stick on 700 calories a day, no. It does not seem healthy I was told that I needed to be at about 1200 cals a day to loose now and to go up from there to find a maintenance point when I am happy with my weight. How can being on 700 calories for the rest of your life be good for you? If you are over that you gain? You must be starving. It seems totally wrong and very punishing. I wish I could hug you -
Business Travel after ESG
Toesinthewater replied to Mrs Roz's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I had ESG in 2020. You should be fine two weeks out. You will notice fatigue due to your decreased calorie intake so plan for that. Also, meals maybe a bit of a challenge depending on your food restrictions but doable. -
Oh y’all. It’s been a little bit since I’m been on this forum. I’m struggling with any weight loss. It’s like I’ve hit a wall for the last 3 months. This is my stats. SD 4/26/22 / SW 216 / CW 175 / GW 130 / age 50 My team has me under 700 cal and less than 20 carbs a day. I use to basically eat yogurt for almost every meal 🤷🏼♀️. But my team say I wasn’t getting enough protein and my body was probably bored and that was causing my slow down in weight. So they had me to mix things up. So I started eating more protein (meats, chicken etc) well then I started started gaining 😡. My last weight in back in January was 173. I gained up to 180 when adding back food. Now I’m down to 175 but I can’t get the scale to move. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😑. My hair is still falling out and I’m definitely getting my protein and my vitamin levels are good. I just don’t feel like my team believes me when I tell them I’m not going over calories or carbs. I’m just beyond frustrated at this point.

I am am self-pay, but going locally to JourneyLite. I was so close to pulling the trigger on Mexico, but I must admit that even though this is more expensive, I do not have to deal with travel, and am pretty close to the hospital. JourneyLite was definitely cheaper than the local hospitals' costs around here! By about 5k to 10k! Even though I likely do not need it, BlissCARE is available at JourneyLite. Since my insurance doesn't cover ANY weight loss surgeries or drugs, I need the peace of mind that comes with having complications insurance. My pre-op diet consists of 1 week of foods I had to buy from JourneyLite--at first I was outraged I had to buy their foods. But in the end, you know what? It is really nice to just eat their foods and not worry about anything at all. It was 1 week because my BMI was lower, if BMI was higher it would have been 2 weeks. I did start my own low calorie diet before I start the official pre-op diet. Around 1200 calories. Just to get my mind and stomach ready for the < 1000 calorie very low carb pre-op diet. I am also now weening myself off of coffee. I am *super* nervous! Surgery day will be here before I know it, and life will change for the better.

Surgery 22 Feb. I had a liver laceration so had to be opened up. And ended up having 3 surgeries in 24 hours. Really struggling post. Have lost weight and am struggling to get daily water, protein, calories in. Anyone else had complications? I know it’s rare but just trying to connect with someone as it’s been hard. Good luck to everyone 😀

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
maintenanceman replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Quest Bars are the best for me. 20 g of protein, almost half daily allowance of fiber, 180-190 calories, not a lot of crazy ingredients. And they taste great. I usually have one a day. Look at labels carefully because many/most protein bars are basically candy... not a lot of protein, loads of calories/fat. -
4 weeks out and scale isn't budging
hills&valleys replied to lexylynn92's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Whenever we lose a lot of weight in a short period of time, a substantial amount of the weight loss is actually water weight not fat. To lose 21 pounds of fat in two weeks, you would have to burn at least 5,500 calories in addition to what you consumed that day. A stall is nothing more than our bodies rehydrating to normal levels. As you are regaining depleted water weight, you are actually losing fat pounds even though the scales are not moving. Don't get discouraged. Once your composition levels normalize, the scales will start registering the fat loss again. -

My 3-week stall happened at 2 weeks and lasted for almost a month. Hang in there. And I agree, eating less than 500 calories PLUS exercising sounds like a great way to make your body hang onto every calorie it can get. -

No it's just all I can fit. When I last saw my doc she wanted me to get calories in by any means necessary so she didn't really require me to go through the puree stage but my stomach is definitely making me go through it or I just throw up harder stuff after a bite or two. I don't try for 500 cals at all I just eat what I can and most importantly try to get Fluid in since I did have bad dehydration at first and I try to prioritize protiens over carb stuff. 4 weeks out and scale isn't budging
Fred in Pa replied to lexylynn92's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is a three week stall that everyone talks about. I’ve thought about this and another fact that the body “initially” heals in 3-4 weeks. It makes sense to me that the 3-4 week time is when the body is slowing the heal and trying to shift back to maintaining the rest of the body. Then, coming from a calorie deficit, it tries to add weight back on. I’d also say 500cals is too low, your body may be sensing starvation. Did you team recommend this low of a calorie count? -
My first two weeks I dropped a lot of weight about 21 lbs but I am on the fourth week and have been stuck at about 203. I was at 201 at the end of the first two weeks then I went up two lbs. I am getting frustrated because I am exercising, hitting my protein goals/liquid goals and I am not getting above 500 calories a day. I just feel like crying (I have been crying) and feel like maybe having PCOS that this weight is still not gonna come off even with this surgery. It sucks to not be able eat most things and go through this to just be stuck like this. Even if I could just get to 199 within a week I would be happy but I see the scale is going up little by little. Everyone keeps saying trust the process but I just can't right now. PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN

They were a no for me too while I was losing. (I’m another whole food person.) So many protein bars are really just candy bars. Does your team recommend a specific brand? Maybe the require only half a bar as a portion size consideration & therefore calories, carbs, etc. When I reached maintenance I used to use them as an emergency snack - popped one in my bag on a busy or active day or would have one if I was having a day I was a bit low on protein & calories. And yes I’d eat a whole one if I was able. When my protein absorption issue was picked up almost two years ago, I started to have a whole bar every night after dinner to ensure I reached my higher protein goal. I’ve found lately, I’m eating only half or 3/4 of a bar. I just twist the packet & finish it the next night. I keep them in the fridge. I find them less gummy & gluey & more tolerable that way. -
I'm 2 months post-op and my teams recommends 800-1000 calories a day with the intent to work up to about 1200 calories a day which is apparently the "sweet spot" for weight loss. I will be at about 1200 calories a day until I get to goal.

Check with your team, we were told at 3 months we should be consuming around 800 calories Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Maybe you're just not eating enough?! For me, a boost in calories always breaks a stall for me. Both pre and post op.

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
xoxoMeli replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't have this "rule" but I can understand it. It's best to get your protein from real, whole foods. Protein bars tend to be higher in carbs and calories. With that said, I like them and eat like 1 a day, most days. 2 months post-op today. -

I know I started out with just half of a protein bar when I had them just to make sure I was tolerating them well. Then quickly moved on to a full bar! Honestly I don’t think I’d be able to manage without them, I eat one every single day for a morning snack. Some of them do have high amounts of sugar so I’m careful to pick ones that don’t. They definitely are more calories than if you had just plain chicken breast or cottage cheese. It does not seem sustainable for that to be an ongoing rule! -
I am not a huge coffee drinker and only like it cold. I am more of a "coffee drink" type of person. Yanno, those super sweet decadent high calorie, tons of sugary coffee FLAVORED drinks (basically desserts)? So now after surgery, I just add coffee to caramel shakes to get that "coffee drink" fix. Tons of people use sugar free creamers, and sugar free flavors though. I haven't found a flavor syrup that doesn't taste like pure chemicals so I stopped wasting my money and just do the shakes.

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My plan had no restrictions on them but did suggest bars with at least a 10:1 ratio of calories to protein. So, if the bar has 150kcal, it should have AT LEAST 15g of protein. That way you get the most bang for your buck. They HIGHLY encouraged prioritizing whole foods, and minimizing supplements/packaged foods, but they understand that sometimes they just WORK. -
High Protein Alternatives - Cereal, Chips, etc.

These Parmesan Crisps aren't loaded with protein but does have 3g, 0 carbs and only 40 calories per serving. They give you an alternative to no-no chips and are delicious. https://www.amazon.com/Mrs-Cubbisons-Cheese-Crisps-Parmesan/dp/B071WWFKB7/ref=asc_df_B071WWFKB7/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=406160142441&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11023441672899566516&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014471&hvtargid=pla-847819159336&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=85590002326&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=406160142441&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11023441672899566516&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014471&hvtargid=pla-847819159336 -
PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN

My pre-surgical diet consisted entirely of packaged items like bars, shakes, soup mixes, etc. and we were told to only eat one bar a day because in comparison with the other items they had more carbs and calories. I wasn't told I had to break them in half though. Just only one a day, -
How did you do on your pre-op diet?
hills&valleys replied to mcipanda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op was strict compared to most but was only 7 days.....liquid only with exception of the Doctor's recipe of homemade vegetable soup. I rarely consumed more than 400 calories a day. In lieu of the vegetable soup, I ate Claussen kosher pickles.....the crunch, savory and tartness was so satisfying that I wasn't tempted to cheat. My surgeon had no issue with my "vegetable" substitution. The pickles were also a welcome change from the sweetness of the shakes. For protein, in addition to the shakes, I drank the Peach flavor Premier Protein Clear. -

Yes same as @kcuster, just sending a hug. I hope you get things sorted quickly. Antibiotics and steroids are a combination I hate, my come down off them was worse than the reason I was put on them in the first place. I still am on 5 or 6 tiny meals a day because I cant eat a lot at once, I dont know if it help you but I will post a menu that my team said will help me with weight and energy, my calories were very low before before this Breakfast - protein yogurt and berries Mid morning - whole milk Lunch- A homemade soup with chicken, veg and lentils i.e. curried lentil Afternoon snack - nuts Dinner- Meat and vegetables or fish and salad etc Supper - Cheese and grapes This gives me 1000 to 1300 calories a day and between 60 and 85 grams of protein
